Bursting a magical net?

Normally in order to damage a magical weapon, you need to have either a magical weapon or equivalent damage reduction yourself.

The net description in the PHB lists a (Strength check) DC to 'burst' the net.

My question is simply: can a creature without a magical weapon or damage reduction burst a magical net?

Follow-on question: a net is generally made of rope (?) Could one be woven of mithril or adamatine threads to improve its hardness and hp (and possibly break DC?)

I'd say "YES" to the "can it be made of other materials to improve it's hardness/hit points"

The other question, I don't know. I wouldn't even want to guess. I'm curious myself.

Needing a equal or higher plus weapon to damage a weapon only applies to the 'Strike a Weapon' (aka Sunder) combat maneuver.

Magic weapons are not invulnerable to other sources of damage; so you could break a magical net with a strength check.

Or you could rule that winning the strength check merely alllows the victim to escape, without breaking the net, so the net-wielder's player doesn't complain too much.

Geoff.
