Buy Dangerous Journeys?

Thanks for the advice guys.

I think I'm going to put it on my 'to buy at some point' list. I'd like to see it sometime, but maybe later. Its an ESD, so it should be around for a while.

It's too bad the Aerth setting ESD isn't available.

I am looking seriously at Lejendary Adventures as well, but it's a bit more of an investment than a $5 ESD.

Since nobody has asked, I guess I'll have to.

Where did you find an ESD of Mythus? I know some folks that would be interested in such.

Here's the link to the Mythus: Dangerous Journeys

http://www.svgames.com/tsr5000esd.html

Alternatively, go to SVgames; find the downloads (ESDs) link on the left; hit the Wizards of the Coast Link; there you will have a list of ESD categories--including 1e AD&D adventures, 1e ad&d rulebooks, supplements, Original D&D adventures and ruleebooks, and Mythus products.

Check it out; there's loads of great stuff available, especially if you've lost a lot of your original D&D collection, or if you never got a few products.

Three Mythus ESDs are available: Mythus DJ RPG; Mythus Magick, and the GM screen. Aerth game setting is not :(

Thanks.

(Update): Passed on the URL for all three Mythus products to the Mythus-L list. I hope this leads to healthy sales. For everybody that reads this message, get Mythus Magick if you get no other DJ product. Tons of spells that would add a lot to any D&D 3e game. The priestcræfting spells of the Ethos of Gloomy Darkness are great for your villains. Especially the various Web castings.

And how about an elaborate character generation system that has you rolling up how many siblings you have, how many siblings your father has, and how many siblings his father had? You do want to find out if your the seventh son of a seventh son of a seventh son, don't you?

Yeah. If you want that, you can play Hackmaster. :)

Dang, I missed that. It's what I get for being so observant.:)

So here follows a correction.

You roll once to see where your PC comes in the birth order. Only if the roll indicates he is a 7th child do you roll again, and this time to see what sort of 7th child he is. The most likely result is, he's a 7th child, with a few out of the ordinary abilities. The least likely is he's the 7th son of a 7th son and a 7th daughter (or she's the 7th daughter of a 7th son and a 7th daughter) with a lot of extraordinary abilities.

Which all means you don't have to determine sibling placement three or four generations back. You can if you want to, but it'snot required.

Matter of fact, if you don't want to bother with the bennies a first born or a seventh born gets, you really don't have to roll for sibling rank at all. It's an option.

I thought it a horribly edited attempt at a game. The system left a bad taste in my mouth.

However, I graduated IWU, am originally from Taylorville, and am marvelling at the serindipity of our locations.

I faintly remember some weird distinction between ordinarry spellcasters and "true dweomercrafters" or something like that...

Heck yeah! People think qualifying as a PALADIN was hard in 1st edition AD&D??? The qualifications for being a true dweomercrafter were intense! But if you were specially built to try, and you got lucky with that roll to determine, you had access to STACKS of heka points. Most everyone else had to settle for being minor mages, with limited amounts of heka, or had to make pacts with devils or such to get more heka to cast spells.

God, I hated that game.

Magic was broken into groups such as Demonology, Apotropaism (warding of spirits, and my favorite name of all time!!!), Theurgy, Thaumaturgy, etc.

Instead of casting times, each spell was a "cantrip" or "ritual" or even an "eyebite", being the shortest sort of spell, and being SKYCLAD actually helped in magic rituals!!! It had many unusual concepts like that.

God, I loved that game.

Yes, interesting (if this quote was directed at me). I went to ISU (history major), btu I took piano lessons at the IWU music department as a boy. I grew up in Normal, near the Brokaw Hospital. Now, but chance of fate, I'm an English teacher in Moscow (long story).

How long have you been in Almaty?

DJ

I would have to agree with Talvisota about the editing. Having played DJ with Talvisota during our days at IWU I would have to say that a several people we gamed with left a bad taste. But the game itself has a wealth of ideas in it, if your willing to wade through the prose.

Thanks, Talvisota for playing Eoin that day I couldn't make it during the summer.
