Just in case you didn't know, there are two plug-ins for Firefox/Mozilla that will greatly enhance your browsing experience.

Adblock

Does what it says: blocks advertisement. You can click here to install. And you can get the blocking rules here. Scroll to bottom to get the latest set. If you need rule installation instructions, they are here

Flashblock

Blocks flash, but also giving you the option of playing it (it shows a box with a Flash logo, that you can click on to "play". You can click here to install.

Enjoy!

While I have little experience with AdBlock I have heard good things about it. I will wholeheartedly recommend FlashBlock though. Great extension, makes browsing the web a much more pleasant experience.

Ooh! I didn't know about flashblock. I've just been using adblock to kill everything that had *.swf?* in it, which gets 90% of flash advertising. Thanks!

Cool. Flash is the most evil internet thing ever invented, next to Spam and Fantasy Baseball...

On my old computer, which wasn't that slow, Flash ads would bring it to a crawl on certain sites (like Gamefaqs).

If you use Thunderbird as well (the email program) you will find a nice feature that blocks graphics in emails.

So you can view the email quickly, and if it is somethign you normally would get, you can activate the graphics for viewing. If it's an attempt at selling something, you just hit delete without having it loaded.

Wow, this is going to sound weird, but I wish that there was a way to disable Ad Block for certain sites. I generally don't mind seeing adverts on gaming sites...

The Auld Grump, though I do prefer to miss the ones I do want to see than see the ones I'd rather do without.

Ctrl+Shift B toggles enabled and disabled. I believe only flashblock has a whitelist.
