Cable modem/ router question.

If I have 2 computer's connected to a router going to cable modem, does either computer loose speed if two people are surfing the net at same time?

Technically, yes. But in practice you won't see the difference.

You might notice something if you are both downloading large files at the same time and watching the current speed of the download.

Or both playing fast-paced online games (like UT) you might get some lag.

But for general surfing and stuff, it won't be a problem.

I agree with what's been posted so far. If you want to control which system is faster then have the modem plugged into the system you want to be faster and gate the other system through the one with the modem. Then the system with the modem will have better bandwidth.

Even with games, it shouldn't be. I believe last night I was playing Natural Selection, my girlfriend was surfing, and my room mate was hosting a Diablo2 Eastern Sun Server and playing on a different Eastern Sun SErver...I never noticed any slippage, my pink went up 30 points(150 or lower) was what my average was.
