Most of the people posting on ENWorld will die within 100 miles of where they were born, despite all the advances in communication and travel.
I plan on dieing in a freak downhill skiing accident on the methane slopes of Ganymede, no earlier than 2357 AD. Anything less is simply not acceptable.

Whereas Hobbits were always described as having a paranoid fear of change on a racial level. To the point where the idea that one would EVER want to see the rest of the world was considered a mental illness. Nevermind someone who would purposefully explore it and get into dangerous situations in the process.

Not true. The Shire was founded a few centuries ago, by a hobbit population moving from... somewhere else, to get away from.... something else. They don't even remember what. The Shire is just a place that has grown very comfortable. There's little question that if the Sauron's forces had completely overrun or occupied the village for a long time, the hobbits would have simply moved. All of them.
