I did in fact receive a proof PDF copy of CoC 7e today, and the full colour treatment in the art was somewhat reminiscent of the d20 edition in some ways- and in any case is strikingly attractive. They have rejigged the layout and the organisation of the book, whilst also expanding the page count substantially.

The major problem with the d20 edition was largely in the culture of the system, which naturally had characters powering up through levels, when the original game was largely driven by vulnerable characters gradually facing a downwards spiral, thematically speaking, of their sanity and physical wellbeing - befitting a horror scenario or campaign. The d100 system is the best, still.

Yes!
Levelling the investigator was never fun…
I prefer more the lunatic investigators from Chasoium. One wrong move and you are gone :)

d20 is great but only for heroic characters and settings like D&D
