Calling all Europeans...

I sincerely suggest that you check with U S embassies in the countries you intend to move to and the country you intend to move to's embassy.

Here is the link for the U S embassy in Denmark.

And for the Danish embassy in Washington, D C, USA.

Btw, Denmark has the only official 4th of July celebration outside of the US, it is called the 'Rebildfest'.

if you are strict christians, the Netherlands might not be the country for you (Legal abortion, euthanasia, drinking age of 16, legal marihuana, gay marriages, legal prostitution complete with a union etc. etc.).

And on the downside Rav is from there! ;) :D

Note: I keep reading this and finding myself incredibly funny. I think I should have stopped a few beers ago ;). Also, I actually intend to post useful advice in a bit :)

I've been to Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival that's held in August every year. Amazing experience. But be warned, if you don't feel like sharing your city with thousands of poor performing types, don't live there :D

if however, the idea appeals, go for it! But be warned it can get VERY cold up there. :)

Well if you think Edinburgh is cold, you might want to avoid Aberdeen. The Granite City, where everything is grey...including the people.

Back on subject...

It all depends what you want? City or Country living. As for jobs what are you trained to do?

First off... thanks for suggestions. I found a couple embassy web sites that have relocation service information.

We want country living, but not so far out of civilisation that we have to drive for hours to go shopping.

I have all kinds of production and manufacturing skills... primarily sewing, but also riveting, assembly and the like.

My husband is currently working as tech support for a medical billing software company. He has lots of office/administrative skills and many years experience along those lines. He also has military experience as a Naval nuclear power plant mechanic, but I know he doesn't want to get back into that line of work. Looks good on a resume, though!

If you do move to England, you might want to make sure your not buying a house that appears to fall below the water table at this time of year.

Hi Malessa,

I'd recommend Yorkshire then...loads of open space, lots of history, some big population centres for that all important shopping, good transport links and its not too far from Scotland ;-) York in particular is a beautiful city.

The South of England and Scotland really do not fit my tastes..far too industrialised. Im a highland lad and theres just something about the yorkshire dales...sigh....

As for jobs i dont think youd have a problem obtaining employment at all.

Wel

Plus its not far to visit the Royal Armouries in Leeds... its considerable cheaper than London. Your looking at a 100% or more, reduction prices in some things, like cinema tickets, pints of bitter, etc.
