Calling all Gun Experts (not OT, really!)

I swear, this is relevant to my D&D game.

I know that, in every sufficiently large parcel of gamers, there's at least one who is an expert on all kinds of modern firearms. This question is for them...

Hypothesizing a South American criminal-terrorist-drug runner type, what kind of gun should he be carrying? Are we talking AK-47s here, or US surplus M-16s, Uzis, or what?

I would say AK's or M-16's as they are probably the two most common types of assault rifle in the world. I would probably add in some hunting rifles and you would probably have a pretty decent set up.

South American Drug Runners and Revoulutionaries? I would say Ak-47 or Ak 74's, SKS Rifles, maybe the rare dragunov or romak 3 sniping rifles, and any assortment of common shotguns or hunting rifles. (Common Bolt Action types, few repeating rifles)

HTH :)

BTW can you explain just why this would come up in a d&d game, I'm really curious! :D

I would say the AK47 or 74 also. They are cheap and reliable. They are what we call a soldiers weapon. Hard to screw up even if you don't clean them regulary. M-16's a few, usually captured from goverment forces. Throw in the odd RPG7 (Rocket Propelled Grenade launcher) and maybe a uzi or mac10 for leaders. Then fill out with civilian weapons and machete for the canon fodder types.

Now the million dollar question. Why does the have to do with D&D?

i would say they would have either an AK-47 or AKM, rather than the AK-74, do to the price change, and they more than likely would have been acquired in africa, as for the small arms, why wouldnt a south american group, carry a Taurus posible the PT908, made in Brazil, which wouls make them much easier to come by. as for rifles and sniping rifles, for that i would say something out of america, not sure yet. but shotgun wise, if they are smart, and get the right connections, they could go after the italian franchi SPAS-12, which is one of the most reliable shotguns made. and along side american shotguns, one of the most availible. other than that knifes, matchete's, and hand grenades.

I ask for rules on explosive decompression in D&D, and you guys don't even flinch. But South American gunslingers raises eyebrows?

Spoilers - SteelDraco doesn't need to read this, does he?

My campaign, set to debut at the start of the fall semester, stars a group of misfit gamers who, while visiting KukulCON 2002 in Mexico City, fall victim to the deadly virus spread by the secret loyalists of Huitzilopochtli, Aztec god of war.

They awaken in the Aztec Underworld, and to return to their lives must fight their way through all sorts of stuff - not just to survive, but to obtain the cure for the deadly smallpox/measles variant unleashed by the Aztecs.

Of course, this cure will be guarded - and why would Huitzilopochtli limit his guards to the use of macauitli or atlatli when there are perfectly good machine guns at hand?

And since CoC gave me these nice firearm statistics, I felt I ought to use the most realistic choice of weapon available, yes?

Now, if you want a dangerous weapon, I still have to decide on stats for the dreaded Turquoise Fire Snake...
