Are camels comic relief in your games?

I voted for the fourth option. :)

We rode on camels some time back. Just animals. :)

I am surprised more Al-Qadim fans have not spoken up....

I've known too many camels (and camelids) to think of them as "comic relief". Nasty, vulgar, brutish things, they have a foul temper, a determined set of opinions, a nasty habit of spitting on anything that doesn't please them, assuming they don't step on it first, they are excellent beasts of burden in a harsh environment, but don't assume they are kindly, cute, or comical.**ugh**

That's why Hollywood does such a great job of portraying them as comic relief.

CONAN, Scorpion King, Mummy, Sahara, etc. all use Camels and people's relationships with camels as comic relief.

There was an NPC druid who had a camel for an animal companion in our campaign.
He still has it, in fact. I have forgotten its name.

Why would camels be comic relief? Are they somehow more amusing than horses?

Camels, mules, donkeys, pretty much every pack animal is a source of amusement. I still remember an orc named Gunk who was too dumb to realize we weren't "the pretty orc" side of the family. We used him as a pack mule too. :D

a planar ranger in a planescape game I played in had a celestial camel. that's pretty amusing considering their surly nature. there was talk of taking a feat (maybe a class ability) that let the animal companion use the rangers hide/move silently. the image of a stealthy camel, stalking its prey on its belly as it scuttled along sand dunes was too much. Unfortunatley, the celestial camel animal companion lasted all of one session when it was sacrificed by another character to get out of a really sticky situation.
