I think I want to hijack this idea.
A young king, having just inherited the monarchy, wants to abolish the slavery that his kingdom has ridden on the back of for seven generations. His nanny, his childhood playmate, they were slaves and he feels this is just not right. The king want's to declare a public edict against the slavery, however he knows the nobility would not stand for it.
And so he enlists the aid of a band of heroes to start turning public oppinion for him. First with a series of pro-freedom propaganda events, finding opportunities to encourage the slaves to shine in moments of heroism, and later by villianizing the neighboring kingdom which takes it's slavery to more brutal extremes.
But how could a small band turn the public oppinion against the oppression of other creatures? After all, they're only kobolds....
