Hello All. I thought I would put up the basic campaign idea for our newly started game and get some thougts and other ideas to fill it out. Forgotten Realms game...
The basic-basic plot is this: A 10 years old princess must flee her home to find a way to save her family and her kingdom from a great evil. The Princess is being played by the 10 year old daughter of one of my staple players: He and the rest of the group are playing characters that are to help her escape, help her find out what's going on and then aid her in stopping the evil.
The Player Characters are: The Princess (1st level human wizard), her bodygaurds (3rd level human fighter), a King's Forester (2nd level ranger/1st sorcerer half-elf), her instructor of the arcane arts (3rd level human wizard). Also with them is a northman valkirye (3rd level human barbarian woman) and two halfling brothers, a rouge and a cleric of Tymora (both 3rd level).
Obviously with a 10 year old in the group and the "linchpin character" the game will be slightly softer on the nature of evil, not so "in your face". This is also the girl's first real campaign so I am looking forward to having so young a player. (Normally when we play she comes over with her dad and watches LOTR-FOTR...sometimes twice...she also is into Harry Potter, of course.)
ANYWAY. Some Campaign Info.
* I have placed the game in the Moonshae Isles. I have decided to completely ignore EVERYTHING ABOUT the second trilogy (I hated it compared to the first) including characters and such.
* I placed it 15 years following the events of the first trilogy. It is 1361, Year of the Maidens.
* The Earthmother is "mostly dead" and no druids are on the isles...other druids of other faiths find the isles to be discomforting and won't stay there. Part of this is the cursed nature of the lands after having been throught he darkwalker wars and the taint of Bhaal. Another part is that Earthmother is still holding onto the lands.
* I have decided that Bane (who is "mostly dead" too at this time) is attempting to make a comeback by having his son, Xvim, sacrifice the Earthmother and collect her power, which should be just enough "juice" to allow Bane to come back enough to start to gather power and such...as long as he's careful about his movements in relations to the other powers.
* The Earthmother herself would like to make a comeback, but is unaware of Xvim and Bane, though she knows SOMEHTING walks on her isles (XVim).
* I am thinking that I will havce the Orcs of Moonshae getting riled up by the orc god Luthic (F&P 150) who feels the "new" Darkwalker (Xvim) and is seeking to off EM to raise her position int he isles and the pantheon.
* I am also considering having the Northmen getting into a war between the true northmen of Tempus and the corupted northmen now in service of Garagos (F&P 94).
* I want to include the cleansing of the Moonwells and that it involves the girl and her unknown (to the group or PCs/NPCs of the worlds) ability of Spellfire.
I have not introduced The group to one another with the attack of a fiendsih displacer beast summoned by Xvim and sent to "Test" the princess.
The beast was hurt, but not enough for the group to be able to stop it before it could kill the princess. It did not kill the princess, though only because the Spellfire erupted and killed the beast and sstablizied her from the death blow.
The group has no idea what happeneed, all they saw was a magical burst of energy to bright to look at... They currently think it was some spell cast by "the beasts summononer" (who the halflings saw in the woods). They are not sure what is going on or why at this point.
My goal, initially, is to show them the Moonshaes. Who are the people, the politics, give them a taste of the isles so that when I do the "night of long knives/the girl must flee the castle" the group can decide where to go and what to do next.
I am decided that the Spellfire thing is dormant for now, hidden deep within her. The lash that killed the Fiendish Displacer Beast was unconcious self preservation. She slowly, unknowingly collects the energy. It must be awakened still.
I want Xvim to need the "spellfire blood of the lands" in his deal to kill the EM and give her essence to Bane.
I am thinking that the Orc Diety will be the real second villan and that the northmen plotlines be mostly distraction and side motivations.
Any thoughts or ideas....
