Yes

I pay a host for the Web sites for both of my campaigns (easyhost.com). Then, I built the sites and maintain them. I use phpBB's free forum software, which I love. I have limited time to manage, maitain and otherwise tinker with a server. I am a believer in paying for service if someone else can do it better - the very reason I don't write my own adventures! lol

No I wouldn't pay for it. I can setup most of anything a group would need on server space I already have. Message boards are pretty easy to get up and running (at least when they are only being used by folks in your group). No need to pay someone else to do it.

Naw... we already have a nice one built from the phpBB freeware. And one of our players is hosting.

I'm sure we could use someone with the expertise to make it look snazzy beyond just a BB though. I think showing a sample of your work/what specifics you are offering would sell the point better.

I know we could use spoiler tags and blockers. And a BB diceroller.

what he said.

was using the free sites from groups.yahoo.com and smartgroups and groups.msn.com but any other freebie is always a boon.

and when one of the players is go at it... well it makes it so much easier.

I thought phpBB had a dice roller, both for the boards and a bot one for if'n you add a chat room. I had board one on my website that I had Back In The Day.

No. In this era of LiveJournal, Blogger, MySpace and other (nearly) idiot-proof EZ Bake Web pages, there's no need to pay for an RPG specific one. Anyone interested in making a Web site for their campaign just has to sign up with MySpace and start importing graphics and pasting in text.

And the next step up, to free GeoCities pages and the like, is a terribly simple one as well.

My group uses a Yahoo Group.

Same. And in many ways that is too much material for us. ;-)

We rely on my game notes, institutional memory, maps, retellings, and the like. Since most of us working on computers most of the day, we like to spend our game time far away from the beasties.

No, I wouldn't pay

I'm using GreatestJournal for my campaigns. Even if it did become a pay service, LiveJournal is still free, and I have a number of "invite codes" for Deadjournal.

If push came to shove, keeping things in email isn't an awful solution either. And there are wikis and blogs that can store content as well, that I could run from my PC.
