Can a Dwarf Ride on a Light War Horse?

First Post
I was looking in my book and it says my dwarf should be riding a war pony. The problem is the war pony can not hold my wieght. If I get on and I wiegh 125lbs, the pony is under a medium load and slows to 30ft. I am of the barbarian and I can move 30ft on my own. The Light War Horse can support my wieght and still move 60ft.

So can a Dwarf ride a Light War Horse?

As a Dwarf I wouldn't be caught dead on anything with "pony" in its name.

The Dwarf is listed as a medium character so why shouldn't he use a larger chreature as a mount.

AFAIK, the only restrictions for riding are that the mount must be at least 1 size category larger than the rider, and must be able to support the weight.

If I'm correct there, then a Medium-size dwarf could ride any Large-size regular horse, up to and including a heavy warhorse. He might look a little silly up there, and he might need a ladder to reach the saddle, but once he's mounted he should be able to ride normally.

I thought a humanoid rider could be the same size as the mount as long as the mount was a quadruped but same-shape creatures had to be 1 size different.

Dire Wolves and Brown Bears make awesome mounts for dwarves.

A Dwarf could use a horse, but in order to mount, the horse will have to get down on the ground, then the dwarf climbs aboard, then the mount gets up. Or use a ladder or a crane.

I've seen dwarves use ponies and mules and boars, as well.
