Can a Psychic warrior tank for a party?

I've designed my psiwarrior with a high wisdom and con. He purposely takes powers that boost his attacks and constitution but *not* his AC.
Is your character a single classed PsiWarrior? Are you using Mindscapes: A Psion's Guide and the extra rules in If Thoughs Could Kill? I'm not sure my DM will allow those sources - If you are using them would your character be as effective without them?

Yes, no and no -- he's a straight XPH psiwarrior. We got ride of the extra rules when the new book came out, as the patches weren't necessary any more.

My psywar is also the primary tank. My build is more defensive. I like high AC and high hit points. The Psionic body and Improved toughness feats when combined will grant alot of hit points. Close-quarters fighting feat is also important in resisting grapples from big mobs.

Vigor is the power to take. I also like thicken skin and precognition (defensive). When you can get your AC upto 42, you are hard to hit. ;)

No, no no. It's when you get your AC up to 97 that you're hard to hit. :)

Also, not to really add anything, but PC is right - you really don't need anything but the XPsiHB to build an effective PsyWar tank.

Yup. Last night we had four rounds before combat to prepare, so my 8th lvl psiwarrior manifested:

Expansion (10' reach, +1 dmg, -1 AC)
Offensive precognition (augmented for +3 to hit)
Psionic keen edge
Animal affinity (augmented to boost str and con at the same time)

It worked, too. The 10' reach from expansion got me an AoO on the guy when he tried to cast, and with an attack bonus +7 higher than normal (including other buffing spells), I power attacked for full... criticalled... and dropped the enemy in one hard hit. The party's barbarian could have done it, too, but I was fairly pleased with how the fight went.

The only pain is watching all those powers melt away a few minutes after you manifest them, and you've blown through 3/4s of your power points for the day. :)

There's a pc who started as a psychic warrior imc (later multiclassed to psywar/cleric, then prestige classed as well, but I digress). She did very, very well as the party tank. Still does, in fact.

Right. Psywarriors can really shine at least once per day and they don't seem to be too weak for the rest of the day with a only a little buff now and then.

The psychic warrior can be what is best termed "part time tank". He can't "tank" all day, but he should be fine if there's another warrior-type in the group to share the damage duties when the PP start to run out.
