Can druid shield bash?

The SRD says that druids are "skilled with shields but must use only wooden ones."

So clearly they can carry one around for the extra AC. But what if they want to hit someone with it? Would they need another weapon profiecency to avoid a penalty? Would it violate their oath about only using crappy, illogical weapons?

You mean using a wooden shield as a weapon? That shouldn't be a problem. Wood is their friend :) They are already proficient so they wouldn't need a proficiency.

It's like the natural claws when you wildshape. Claws are not on their weapon list but it's still ok to use them.
