The spell does not mention anything about this, so I would assume creatures can still move thru it just fine (other than taking damage).does that mean things can not move through it?

It both a) isn't specifically mentioned, and b) doesn't make sense (they are intangible animals), so I'd assume creatures can move thru. I don't understand why the initial placement would require an unoccupied space in the first place
Conjure Animals needs to be put in and moved to an "unoccupied space" does that mean things can not move through it?
I don't see why that would matter. There are lots of spells that don't allow ending up in occupied spaces, including conjuring spells, Misty Step, Blink, Thunder Step, etc. That detail is only relevant when considering movement/placement due to the spell.
After the creature has been conjured what matters is:
"You can move through a nonhostile creature’s space."
Is the conjured creature hostile to you? If no, then you can move through it. If yes, then you can't.
So this suggests you treat it as a creature, so enemies could not move through it at all (unless 2 sizes different).
