Can I do this with spells...?

Magic Missile

First Post
I'm going to be playing a high level wizard in a one off Evil game (with capital "E", you'll note) in the near future, and I was just curious of this would work:

What I want to do is cast a spell on my fellow party members that makes them *completely unable* to do me any harm... whenever they try they suffer excruciating pain (a bit like the weird head implant Spike has/had in Buffy...), maybe doing a little bit of damage, but basically just to stop them from attacking me. Oh, and to have this effect permanent or at least have a long duration.

Is this feasible? What spells would work? I was thinking either a Geas/Lesser Geas, or a Limited Wish/Wish spell...

If you were DM, would you allow this? With a Limited Wish? Or would I need a full blown Wish? One Wish per person, or the entire party?

Oh, and I want to do it while they are alseep, so they don't know it's happened...

You may find an appropriate spell in some other book, but I can't think of a PHB spell that would allow this. And no, as a DM, I would not allow it with even a Wish, let alone a Limited Wish. Lesser Geas/Geas are open to interpretation (and have led to a few arguments on this board), but IMO someone under it could choose to suck up the damage and Just break the command anyway. Maybe you should just cast a number of Dominate Person spells (or a chained one) and hope for the best.

Heighten a curse to 9th level, and you are getting something close to what you're asking for.

I would force you to research the spell, requiring you to have already learned both Bestow Curse and Geas.

Rather than making yourself the biggest threat, wouldn't it be more effective to make yourself seem more vulnerable than you actually are? Doing as you suggest just makes yourself a target, someone that the rest of the group may very well decide has to be taken out *first*.

As an Evil character, the trick is to be just intimidating enough where your fellow characters know it will hurt bad it attack you while not being so intimidating that the all agree to combine strengths to kill you.

Did you remember to take the Leadership feat, so that you have at least one lackey whom is loyal to you?

If this is suppose to be an Evil game where part of the point is to play evil with each other, a spell like this removes part of the fun. Put alarms around yourself. Buff up on abjurations. Sleep in a rope trick, but trying to make it so that the other characters can't act evilly toward you seems to undermine their fun in the game while leaving yours intact.

Just my thoughts.

Ah, OK everyone, thanks for the input...

It was just a thought I had... we're all very good friends and in a one-off Evil game I for one would be very worried if there *wasn't* some kind of inter-party backstabbing/conflict/open assault...

OK, nevermind the spell idea. How do I calculate the ECL of a Lich character? I only have the three core books... I now want to see the look on the 30th level rogue's face when I tell him I'm immune to sneak attacks...

*giggle*

there is a divine spell called sanctuary. Basically Anyone must make a will save to attack you. Perhaps you could have a Arcane version. of this spell. Then make it perment. Then anyone attacking you would have to make a will save or be unable to attack you. You could heighten it too (or which ever feat makes spell higher level.), mulitipule times, so that the Target will save really high. plus get spell focus what ever school it would be (probablly the same as other protection spells) Now it could be dispelled (that would suck) but with the Heightening it would be hard. it would also work against your enemies.

you could also perhaps make a variant on magic circle against evil. Or perhaps there is a feat that will allow you to make the effect smaller so that evil charachters (your adventuring partners) couldn't enter your current location. or touch you but that might keep your friends from healing you when you are hurt. again you'd want to make it permenant.

In a 30th level party, a rogue should be surprised if anyone is affected by sneak attacks. :D

Isn't there an epic feat that lets rogues sneak attack undead or something like that ?

*ahem*

Hi, me again...

Er, another quick idea. Would you allow an item that creates a sort of "anti-anti-magic field" around yourself? i.e. an item that would *always* let you use Personal range magic even in anti-magic areas? Maybe an artifact? A spell? something?

Am I asking lots of silly questions? :D
