Can I download the 2e books?

Also, try your local half-price books or the equivalent. They normally have a large assortment of out of print roleplaying games. Heck, you might find some good 3.0 or 3.5 mixed in as well. And you should try the WOTC site. I think they have some downloads there as well for free.
There are probably a dozen I know of in a half-hour bus ride radius from my house. I really need to do this at one point or another - I'm just so broke, I don't know when Ill be able to

You should. I got Oriental Adventurers 3.5 ruleset for jiminy 19 or so bucks. Could have been less. I know it was under 20 for sure. And that thing's original price was close to fourty. Good deal all around. :) My first 3.5 purchase as a matter of fact.

You can check E-bay for the CD-Rom that was put out in the mid 90's. This had all the
core rule books and most of the main supplements too. It was called Core Rules CD-Rom,
I think.

Good luck,

Arrel

Indeed it was, I have a copy buried somewhere myself. One nice advantage is it comes with a fairly decent character generator and dice roller, some DM utils, etc. Good buy for a 2E DM. Especially if that DM doesn't mind RTF format versions of the various books.

The game is out of date, and out of print.

Just to note..."out of date, and out of print" does not equal "out of copyright" (not that you necessarily were assuming such). As others have noted, you can buy legal PDFs of the books.

Cool, thanks.

Just for the record: I'd never ask for illegal downloads. I've never even tried anything like that, but I did hope they were out there legally. :)

Oh well. :p

Krunchy, I have extra 2e rulebooks I don't need. If you want to pay postage from Boston, they're yours for free.

Drop me an email (click on my user name).

Well. Like the others have said, you can find a ton of free, legal downloads at the WOTC site. Also, do check out your local used bookstore. You will find alot of really neat gaming books there as well, for fairly reasonable prices depending on the bookstore of course. :)

Nothing better! It's only the illegal ones we want to avoid. :)
BTW, on that delightful subject, who is the onus on to persue copyreich violators of old material? Is it still wotc / hasbro? Or did that become Kenzer's job after getting the rights and what not to do Hackmaster?

I'd imagine that it's on WotC, as they're the holders of the copyrights (inherited from TSR). As I imagine Kenzer is only a licensee, I doubt it's their job.
