Can I get help pricing this item please?

I have created an item and I want to put a price on it.

First off, it is a small version of a longsword with 1,000 gp worth of gems in its pommel. This price is in addition to the masterwork component.

It has a +1 enchantment.

If held in the hands of a halfling with any level of sneak attack the weapon also grants the use of the Weapon Finesse feat when wielded. This would of course grant Weapon Finesse for a weapon held in the off-hand but regular penalties for attacking with two weapons would still apply.

So I can start by pricing the sword, the MW component, and the +1 but am lost with the rest.

Can someone help me out?

Thanks,

Aluvial

I would say the ability you are adding is roughly the equavalent of a plus one ability. So in my opinion the price should be 8315 gp.

I saw that in the SRD that if you limit the item to one particualar class that you can reduce the price by 30%.

I was wondering if I should actually decrease the price further because of the limitations to race and class ability?

You are aware, I suppose, that weapon finesse cannot be used with a longsword?

Yeah, but that was kindof the point...

In essence, I needed something to make up for the fact that Halflings got the shaft on weapon damage...

This is a compromise item.... but I still need to make sure it is in line with the rest of items I've given him and are taking away.

I think he meant it to apply to the longsword when you weild it. IMO appling weapon finesse to a weapon that it can not normally be applied to should balance out the class and race restrictions as far as price goes.

That was part of the pricing problem in my eyes... I just didn’t know if there was an official way of looking at this or not.

I'd like to get a good approximation so that I can list the creation price correctly.

Thanks for any insights on this problem. I'm terrible at it...

Ah...okay. So what you're really saying is that the weapon allows the weilder (if a halfling with sneak attack as a class ability) to use his dexterity instead of his strength on the attack roll.

The way you worded it, it looked like the poor halfling would have to weild a shortsword in the off hand to benefit.

That sort of benefit is pretty large....perhaps a +2 or +3?......so limiting it to halfling rogues should bring it down into the +1 or +2 range. I mean, think about it; for most halfling rogues, this gives them an additional +3 to +5 on their attack rolls. That a big hill 'o beans, boy.

BTW, halflings do not get the shaft. They're one of the most powerful PC races in the core rules (after dwarves). Their lesser weapon damage is a very small price to pay for all of their bennies.

I was thinking about it more like a one step damage increase from 1d4 for a short sword to 1d6 for a longsword. That is an average damage increase of 1 point.

If giving the weapon finesse feat for free is to much how about allowing the character to use the weapon finesse feat with the longsword if he has it?
