Hookshot

Deku Leaf
Damage: See discription
Description: Its a huge leaf that can carry a medium size creature, larger sized creatures will fall if they tried using the leaf. It can push creatures out of its way (see blowing away description in the DMG). Medium size creatures can glide with it moving at a speed of 60' a round, moving downward at a rate of 10' a round. Wind conditions reduce the speed to a third (so 20' a round) if going against the wind.

Why is the victim paralyzed for 1 round? I can see many ways to abuse this...

Agreed, their being drawn into a square so there should be a chance of an AoO, correct? (I would leave it with just the AoO.)

Also you forgot the DC for the strength check.

does this look better?

Hookshot
Damage: 1d6
Description: The Hookshot is a tool that shoots into wooden objects (trees, wooden chests, side of buildings, etc.) and it can bring the wielder to that object. It can also hit enemies doing 1d6 points of damage and bring them closer to the wielder. the wielder also gets a Attack of Opportunity,.it has a range of 50', and if the DM alows it, it can be upgraded to a Longshot, with a range of 100', every thing else is still the same

Here's my shot at a slight re-write. Hope it helps.

Hookshot
Damage: 1d6 Piercing
Range Increment: 10'

Description: The Hookshot is a tool that fires a barbed projectile trailing a rope. The projectile automatically anchors itself into wooden objects such as trees, wooden chests, side of buildings, etc. on a successful hit. Treat it as a projectile weapon with a 10' range increment for determining range penalties. On the wielder's next turn, he may activate the hookshot's reel as a move action. This draws the wielder toward the anchored projectile at a rate of 50' per round, on the weilder's turn. The hookshot can lift as much as 400 pounds in this way.

The other use for a hookshot is as a weapon. It is a ranged weapon with a 10' range increment. On a successful hit it causes 1d6 Piercing damage and anchors to the target. If the wielder then activates the hookshot's reel (which requires a move action) the target must make a DC 20 Strength check or be drawn toward the wielder at a rate of 50' per turn, ending adjacent to the wielder. This movement provokes Attacks of Opportunity normally.

Note that the hookshot is an Exotic weapon, so most users will suffer a -4 penalty when trying to use it.

A normal hookshot has a maximum range of 50' (which is only 5 range increments) but there are rumors of a Longshot device which is identical in every way but has a maximum range of 100'.

Looks like a semi-replacement for the whip, of course the same could be said in reverse for the games. I like it a lot but it's definatly for a game with more tech.

What about retreaving items though.

The lkeaf needs more indepth rules, for instance a bull rush for the floating and clums flight for the gliding. DnD flight needs glide rules.
