D&D 5E Can someone please summarize Out of the Abyss for me?

She is not present. She helped the wizard summon all the DLs in the first place so she could take over the Abyss while they are gone.
But is she not present or is she not present?

I mean, not being physically present to fight pesky heroes is one thing, and quite alright.

But is her plan discussed, at all? I mean, are there parameters for her success?

It would suck if the adventure simply assumes the heroes are successful, the demons go home and Lolth simply calls off her takeover.

It would be cool if the adventure outlines what needs to happen for her to go ahead with her attempt, and most importantly, the consequences of her succeeding. Otherwise we simply don't know the full scope of what's at stake here.

I guess that if you succeed, the demons lord are banished back home (according to previous lore on outsiders, you can't really kille them on the prime) and Lolth's plan is screwed, as it relies on the DLs' absence.

Okay. That actually sounds super cool. Were I to run it, I wouldn't mention that the PCs were going to fight the survivor. I'd instead buy something all my players like (Chocolate?) and say "and the last guy standing gets this."

HA! That sounds like a neat idea, though I can't say I'm thrilled that the mod ends with a WWE-style brawl between the demon lords...sounds a bit cheesy. :/

How much info is there on Gauntlgrym? My current (4e) campaign has, as one of its main goals, rediscovering and clearing it.

It's got a few of pages of history and major locations, and some random encounter tables. But the focus of that chapter is diplomacy, not exploration, so you won't find detailed maps or anything.

Well it has now been discovered and cleared three times as of out of the Abyss. Once by Breunor who was killed by pit fiend. Then the Drow found it and turned it into a new city called Q'Xorlarrin and cleared out the monsters and stuff. Then the Dwarves came and kicked the Drow out and reclaimed the city. The Revived Breunor is now it's king.

Lolth's involvement is tangental to Out of the Abyss. The Lolth story arc will likely (my guess) be continued in the follow up RA Salvatore novel (after Archmage, which kicks things off). Time flows differently between material and outer planes. Her goals in the abyss are not revealed, and she can be successful/partially successful/fail regardless of PC involvement with Demon Lords.

Remember, the story arcs are:
Rage of Demon (Omnibus story)
Archmage et. al - Drizzt and Co story including Lolth
Out of the Abyss - PC story
Neverwinter Online: Underdark Expansion
Sword Coast Legends - A new game with story elements
Encounters (as out of the abyss)/Expeditions (Extra content around Moonsea) - PC story via Adventures League
