can we rethink the VIIIth amendment to the constitution?

now remember, folks, let's not turn this into a debate about the death penalty. i only want these people who are sentenced to death to get there by being tortured to death.

LOL!

I guess it's a valid point, certainly in the context of this discussion. Just struck me as funny.

okay, it was meant to be a little ironic!

KnowtheToe: Again, revenge is underrated. If it were my child, I wouldn’t be one of those “revenge won’t bring my child back” people. Of course not, nothing will. It still doesn’t mean you have to watch him get free cable while he sits out a life term or 10 years on death row while you stew? I’d say “gimme the f-ing hammer” and then I’d swing till I couldn’t pick it up anymore. One more creep sent to hell, and sent how he should go – in terror and great pain!

While we're on the topic of executions, I have a question. Given the existance of spells like Raise Dead and Resurrection, how do you folks handle the executions of powerful lawbreakers (e.g. crime lords, etc.)? What steps do you have your NPCs take to ensure that they don't come back?

I've never seen why we as a society got away from beheadings, anyway. Sure they're messy, but they are quick and cheap.

Stannis: I'm with you on this one.

Then again, I'm from Texas, so what do you expect?

As for beheadings... they're still just a touch more expensive to perform than simple hangings... messier too. Gotta keep the state in sharp blades and sponges... gotta hire people to clean up the mess.

Yup, hangings are the way to go. Hell, you can even reuse the rope again and again!

"This was the rope used to hang that bastard child murderer back in 2004"

We could open up the death penalty hall of fame, with celebrity nooses and retired electric chairs, famous syringes and a Stannis' hammer of retribution.

Well, if you play Scarred Lands (or even if you don't) the R&R book has a spell called bottomless pit which would allow someone to slowly decay as they fell into eternity. Give them a ring of sustenance, and they wouldn't even die until they were forgotten about (and most of their cohorts were dead too)!

Sounds pretty hellish to me, falling in darkness for 60 years or more...!

This is dangerously close to a political discussion.

Dangerously close? Face it, it was over the line from the first post. While you may feel strongly about it, King Stannis, it was bad form.

Trap the Soul or similar effect, and obliterate the body such that not even dust remains.

why, oh why can't we inflict cruel and unusual punishment on people like this?

Um, because that would make us no better than that dude? Isn't that a no-brainer?

I hope you forgot to put a smiley on that one. Being a Texan isn't an excuse for everything, you know, these being international boards and such. ;)
