So it applies perfectly. They only care about profits. Nothing else matters to them. To my way of thinking that’s about as clear-throated a declaration of “really, we’re pure evil” as it’s possible to make.
We already knew who they were, is my meaning. There was no reveal. Unless a company adopts articles binding it to behave differently (has any other major game company done this?) then it shares the same spots as all the other leopards.

I'm not against counting profit-seeking as evil, but it is the current norm for companies.

I'm surprised after years of reading on ENworld how dominant and superlative D&D is as a RPG, that people now think that they can make more money selling non-D&D-adjacent works.
A reference point for this might be @Morrus's thread on million dollar kickstarters. Licensing an IP is generally motivated by the expected delta between earnings with/without that IP.
