One of the big factors in killing a regenerating creature is usually this:
A regenerating creature that has been rendered unconscious through nonlethal damage can be killed with a coup de grace.
It's usually pretty easy for a party to knock one unconscious and keep it there with repeated pokes/slashes/hits/whatever. In the meantime, one character just needs to get out some oil or acid and try for the coup de grace. Given the troll's +11 Fort save, damage of 11 more points that way will lead to a 50% or better chance of success. In terms of the relative HP's of the troll (63), that's not that many percentage-wise. When they finally do kill it, I would suspect a majority of the dead troll's skeleton will remain intact.
