Can you "feel" a major image?

... actually, rereading the spell descriptions again, all this business about hitting the wall being "incontrovertible proof" or not is irrelevant! A major image _disappears_ if it's struck by an opponent. If you want the wall to hang around after being hit (albeit with the club passing through), you need illusory wall.

You're exactly right, Hong. Though I believe that Pielorinho and I were talking about illusions in general. That's why I suggested Wall of Iron early on in this posting. :)

OK. You good...
"The image disappears when struck by an opponent unless the character causes the illusion to react appropriately."

But what about the following scenario...
What about an illusion of a wraith or shadow or some other incorporeal being? would "striking" such an illusion constitute incontrovertible proof of an illusion?

The wraith or shadow would disappear when hit, unless the caster is around to make the illusion "react appropriately". In this case, that means dodging out of the way of the blow, or however else you judge a wraith would react to being hit. Maybe it screams like a schoolgirl or something.

Either way, each round someone is in combat with the wraith, they would get a save to disbelieve. Engaging an illusion in combat counts as interacting with it.

A "real" wraith would be unaffected by non-magical weapons. The weapon wouldn't connect with anything - just like our "illusory" wraith. Hard to tell the difference (right?)

Your comment about the save each round involved in combat does sound right though. Thanks.

I do not think that you can "feel" a major image as described with the club swing.

however, if you had a wooden wall, and used major image (or another appropriate spell) to make the wood look like a stone wall, then I would ajudicate that an illusion that provide sound would mask a "thunk" of a club hitting wood, with a "smack" of a club hitting stones.

without a real wall to mask however, i would say that you could have the "attacker" swing at the wall, hit the wall, and have stone flying out of the wall as if there were no mortar holding them together. But still, no "feeling" to hitting stones.

g!

Only if the caster is around to keep the illusion going. Otherwise, it's just like any other illusory combatant -- it goes poof as soon as it get hit. Remember, it's not a real wraith, it just looks like one.
