Sure! There's lots of ways to play "wrong".

-houseruling to the point where the PHB, DMG, and MM are useless. (jn which case, you may in fact be playing GURPS)

-Railroading players away from making any kind of in-character decisions.

-Using pewter minis as slingshot ammunition.

-Stabbing players when they take damage.

-Attempting to summon satan with AD&D books.

This is gonna open a can of worms. :)

In my opinion, yes, you can play D&D wrong. Twinking, powergaming and munchkinism (whatever you want to call it), is not the way to play.

Thats my opinion. Bear that in mind when you want to flame me down for it.

If everyone at the table is having fun, No.

No, you can't play it wrong. You can play it in ways that others may not like, but as long as the people at the table are having fun it is not wrong.

Ahh... but if peoiple at the table aren't having fun! then it is being done incorrectly! You self-canceled your own argument (does a little dance)

So the wrong way to play is in a way that makes it no fun for the rest of your group.

Yup. But if group A is a happy little group of drama queens and group B is a happy little group of character twinkers, and they are all having fun, everyone's happy, regardless of whether group A or group B approved of the other's playstyle.

I truly cannot believe that anyone would be so arrogant as to think that any style of play is wrong. This utterly blows my mind. The poll as it stands as I type this is actually tied. Granted, it's only 8 to 8, but, whoa, you could knock me over with a feather.

Sorry, just because you don't like it doesn't make it wrong. It is the utter height of arrogance to think otherwise.

*goes back to humble mode*

It depends on what you mean by wrong.

If everyone at the table is into playing high magic high stats, half dragon/undead trolls then they are not playing wrong. The same if people play 28 point core only. Or Low magic, or adding guns or what ever.

The only way I can see it as being wrong is if the game is not fun for the people playing it. Just because someone else might not enjoy a certain way a someone else plays a game does not make them or the other persons style of play wrong.
