can you vampiric touch a shield guardian?

The answer is that temporary hps don't stack so you get no lasting benefit from such a course of action, again in the double sense.

Just to clarify, sometimes temporary hit points do stack. For example, temporary hit points from a Body Feeder weapon stack with each other, but not with any other source. In the case of Vampiric Touch, you're correct in that multiple castings will not stack.

For a more rules based answer to your question, contructs are immune to spells that let you make a Fortitude save to reduce the effects, unless the spell can also affect objects (i.e. Disintegrate).

But... but... I want to gains hit points from vampiric touching inanimate objects!

Piss & Moan [General]
Self explanatory.
Benefit: Absolutely none. There is nothing that can change your abhorrent personality.
Normal: You’re just as bitchy as you were before, if not worse. Get a life.
Special: There is absolutely nothing special about this feat, or you for that matter.

Get Whatever You Want [General]
You can get whatever you want from your DM with little fuss.
Prerequisites: Cha 8+, Schmuck, Shameless.
Benefit: You are a schmuck. You know this. Everyone knows this. You don’t care. By sleeping with the DM, you can get just about anything you want, such as gaining temporary hit points with vampiric touch from a creature that doesn't even possess a frickin' Constitution score. Whenever you use this feat, you must make a Charisma check. The check is set by your DM.
Normal: Without this feat, you just bitch a lot and are simply begging to be buried alive.
Special: My god…you suck. A character with the Shameless feat gains a +2 competence bonus to all Get Whatever You Want checks.

The right moment finally came along. ;)

I'm like herpes. I'm highly infectious, and eventually, I make everyone smile. :D

Wait...that didn't come out right.

RotfL KRey. Your feats should be compiled somewhere (a new thread?).

If you think the troll in a cage trick is munchkin, think about the temp hp a vampire gets from life-draining. Dominate hundreds of peasants, then slam each one once. You could get thousands of temp hp, just before the heroes arrive. Of course, any DM (or player) who tries to trick deserves to have something horribly painful happen to their campaign (or character).

Furthermore, how much does a troll cost? And why doesn't the troll just take 20 and break the cage? And how much does a troll eat, sleep, etc.? If I were to lock a human in a cage, they would starve (regeneration doesn't save you from this), get a permanent painful crick in their neck, suffocate (like the al-Qaeda prisoners held by the Northern Alliance; regeneration won't help you here), die of the stench (unless you walk the troll, and that's dangerous), go insane, lose the will to live (even regeneration won't save the troll from this), etc.
