Canuck LGS Roundup

Warp 1 - decent selection, insane prices
Warp 2 - good selection, insane prices
Comic King West - very basic selection, very friendly, cover price
Comic King South - never actually been there
Wizards - never actually been there
Card Sharks - basic selection, marked up prices

These are the ones I know of - none of them will ever qualify as an FLGS imo (the ones that are friendly don't have enough gaming stuff or simply charge far too much to qualify as favourite)

I'd like to chime in and express my extreme hatred of Warp and their price-gouging policies.

Wizards has a very basic selection (they are mostly comics and CCGs). They are happy to do special orders, though, although I have never special-ordered anything.

Someone mentioned Leading Comics in Edmonton. Do they sell used material, or new material?

Another for Winnipeg, Manitoba:

Face Off Sportscards, Phone: (204)832-3921
3043 Ness Avenue
- mediocre selection, but quite cheap compared to Pendragon and Camapaign Outfitters, and the stock new books quite quickly.

From St. John's, NL

Timemasters Inc. - On Duckworth Street (next to the National War Memorial)
Good selection of new materials, prices vary depending on the owner's mood (hope he's not here :) ) Really good for special orders and lots of anime to boot!

Downtown Comics - Also Duckworth Street
Arch enemies of Timemasters! Smaller selection but better prices.

The Book Closet - Commonwealth Avenue in neighbouring Mount Pearl
Mostly used materials, though they sell some new WotC stuff. Prices are good.

Second Page Books & Posters - 2 locations, Water Street and Topsail Road
Used materials only, selection can be good, depending on what has been brought in. Prices are fine.

Another shop has opened in the last few weeks, but I can't remember the name. They mostly deal with CCGs and used stuff, and their prices are way out there. They have some new RPG stuff and some used as well.

We also have a place called Wenches & Rogues, but alas it is a clothing store, not a game shop.

The Sentry Box

They're pretty big, friendly people, lots of stuff and room to play. One could not ask for more from a game store. We're lucky, lucky people here in Calgary.

I second that. Sentry box has a very nice collection to meet your gaiming needs, plus supplies for dozens and dozens of other hobbies.

Very nice, all around.

Everyone I meet seems to loathe the guys at Warp. I guess actually paying for your roleplaying material is a no no! :p Sure you have to have a file number not to get charged extra but I buy more than enough roleplaying stuff to justify having a file number. But I'm not going to try to sway you. you've obviously made up your mind.

Yep, the Wizards guys are a good bunch even if the selection is limited. I've never special ordered anything with them so I can't comment on that.

That was me. They sell used stuff only. Right now he doesn't have any D&D stuff, although re had a few other system games. I can't remember which ones. Leading is on Jasper Ave across the street from Front Page Magazines, which is a good place downtown to buy gaming magazines (i.e. Dragon, Dungeon), BTW.

At 84th Ave & Scott Road in Surrey, BC, there's a place called "The Time Machine." The guys there know me.

In Victoria, at 1122 Blanshard Street, is a place called "Core Games." I haven't been there, but I met the owner at a convention a couple of years ago, and I got his business card.

1122 Blanshard Street, Victoria, BC, V8W 2H6
Phone: 250-389-CORE (2673)

Those are the only game stores I know of, but now that I've seen the list, there are a couple out in Vancouver I ought to drop by and check out.
