Car chases and obstacles

Don't forget the old drunk guy sitting by the side of the road who watches the chase go by, then looks at his bottle of booze and takes another swallow.

Or the busy sidewalk cafe filled with diners who scramble out of the way as the cars crash through their tables.

So we did a car chase last night. Pretty good for a first time. Reminds me of a stripped down Car Wars. Putting the "good guys" in the position of running full out to catch the baddie or slam on the breaks and swerve to avoid the soccer ball chasing kid is mean, but fun!

Things that would have been handy considering we utilize minatures extensively:

1. Street/road maps of the possible routes. Perhaps this is one thing a passenger could do. Navigate. If you are driving in an unknown area you don't get advanced map knowledge.

2. Road tiles. Simple photocopied street/road tiles, bends and intersections that approximate how far ahead a character can see. This way you don't have to rail road characters to one route, it can change as the players yank on the steering wheel.

3. Obstacle cut outs to be layed down as necessary.

4. Basic turn/maneuver template ala Car Wars that you can lay ahead of the vehicle to speed up calculations.

5. Micro machines mini-cars for when we went to chase scale.

6. Rule for air bags and damage reduction for when the perps blew through the police road block.

If we were playing a more Ronin the movie game I would use Spycraft car rules, but for the less intensive car use I think D20 Modern works pretty good.
