3 Dragon Ante version
So here goes my own version after reading the original post. I broke out my 3 Dragon Ante Deck and worked it out. I liked the flavor that using this gave to my stat generation.
Utilizing the Mortal cards numbering from 4-9 and setting aside the Fool (3) until later. Select a spread of Dragon cards to match 4-9. Shuffle the cards except the fool and arrange in sets of 2, 1 pile for each stat.
[STR] [CON] [DEX] [INT] [WIS] [CHA]
Now I devised 2 methods to choose from:
*Fools Boone: Reveal the stats and rearrange the pairs as you desire. Then the Fool card (3) is placed on the Lowest Stat, then you apply Racial mods and any other changes (Advanced character age, etc).
*Fools Rush In: Reveal the cards, they stay where they were laid, then then the fool is applied to desired stat. The cards are revealed and added up. Again racial and other modifiers are placed.
Example: Shuffle then deal the cards. I will use the "Fools Rush In" so I place the fool on my STR stat. Then reveal the cards. my stats are as follows;
STR 9+4+3 (Fool)=16
CON 5+6=11
DEX 7+9=16
INT 7+5=12
WIS 8+6=14
CHA 4+8=12
If I had used "Fools Boon" I could rearrange the stats as desired and the Fool would have bound to the 11, making a 14.
*Another option, arrange the numbers how you desire then apply the Fool on to any stat as long as the new total is not greater than 18, applying mods as normal.
I have tried this a few times and it works pretty well with a well rounded stat-gen system. I like the Tarot reading generation, it has a great feel and can help work out some details for the characters. It has helped flesh out some characters, but takes so long that I use this for the stat generation and use the tarot reading in game for the details.
If anyone likes this let me know, I could use feedback to help refine it.
