Castle Greyhawk?

I am trying to dig up a copy of Castle Greyhawk by Gary. I assume this one (linked) is not the original one published by TSR/GG?

I got interested in getting my hands on a copy after reading mention of it and how much people enjoyed it on the massive "Ask Garry" thread over on EN World. Thanks in advance.

Gary's Castle Greyhawk was never published. The one TSR published was a spoof, a bunch of levels that each had a theme that they went wild with (a superhero level, a fast food level, a banquet hall level, etc). Some are fun, some a just bad. I remember having a lot of fun with it, but its not what you are looking for.

TSR did publish Greyhawk Ruins, which was the closest thing to Gary's Castle Greyhawk published, but it wasn't written by him. http://store.yahoo.com/svgames-store/tsr9292esd.html

Gary has run various levels of his Castle at conventions over the years, so that may be what people were talking about (I haven't read the whole thread, so I don't know what they said). I a recent interview I read with him, he said that there has been talk of publishing his original Castle Greyhawk at some point, but it would require about 2 years of steady work that he doesn't really have time for. I'll try to find the interview.

Found the interview I was talking about. At the very bottom of page 45 of the PDF magazine here http://www.tongue.fsnet.co.uk/ODD10.pdf, Gary talks about him & Rob Kuntz possibly designing a castle & dungeon based on his original Castle Greyhawk. The whole interview is worth reading. The first part is in issue #9 of OD&DITIES and the second part is in issue #10. They can both be found here: http://www.tongue.fsnet.co.uk/

Long story short, Gary's Castle Greyhawk still exists somewhere between Gary's and Rob's brains, and their copious hand-written notes. Maybe someday, if the money is worthwhile enough for them to make it a serious project, they will do it.

But rest assured, when I win the Lottery, I will make Gary and Rob a financial offer to work with Troll Lord Games and get the combination 1st Edition / 3E - statted product out to print within a year. :D

Let's all buy lottery tickets and agree to put winnings towards getting Castle Greyhawk published. That might increase our chances :)

Great, thanks. I wonder how true to the original castle it is (did the designers run thru the orignal game with Garry) or is it made from scratch. Thanks for the interview link as well, good read.

WG7 Castle Greyhawk has absolutely nothing to do with Gary Gygax's Castle Greyhawk. It is a module of humorous intent, but far too often falling flat on its face. It treats the entire subject with no respect.

WGR1 Greyhawk Ruins was created during one of the short-lived revivals of the World of Greyhawk line by TSR. It's a big (really big) dungeon crawl. Its relationship to the Gygaxian original is tenuous at best.

EX1 Dungeonland and EX2 The Land beyond the Magic Mirror, available as free pdf downloads from the Wizards website (link) are Gygaxian sublevels/demi-planes accessible from Castle Greyhawk.

Gary has stated on several occasions a desire to release Castle Greyhawk, but has also stated that this will require Rob Kuntz to work with him, and for the whole to be done in as close to AD&D rules as possible. Rob Kuntz has been out of action for the past few months due to illness.

Hopefully Troll Lord Games will be able to help Gary & Rob get the original Castle Greyhawk released.

Cheers!
