Castle Ravenloft as a Victorian era d20 Modern game

...would rock pretty hard.

I have an old copy of the Ravenloft Masque of the Red Death Guide to Translyvania, which would be useful in importing a bit more real-world history and culture.

Just put together a team of professional vampire hunters a la the old "Tomb of Dracula" comics...I have a notion that you could use some stuff from the Book of Exalted Deeds (say, a Risen Martyr who came back from the dead to take out Stradt, or maybe even a character with the Saint template).

Yep...there's one more idea I don't have time for...

I've been thinking the same thing.

If it were for savage worlds, it would be PERFECT for running a long adventure path for Rippers. If you haven't seen Rippers yet, it would be awesome (and is awesome in Fluff material) for a modern-ish Victorian Van Helsing type of game.

I plan on getting it for that exact purpose in case I ever get a modern group together willing to run a Rippers d20M or true20 game.

Wish the book had conversion stats for True20...

I see on the WotC website that they have suggestions for tailoring the adventure for everything from a six-month campaign to a one-shot...I'm a long way from being able to run the former, but maybe I could at least do a one-shot, kick in the door and storm the castle kinda thing.

If I run this, it might be worth coming up with a nice Vampire Hunter advanced class...some Favored Enemy type bonuses, maybe a Will save bonus vs. vampiric charms, maybe something to allow better and more efficient staking...

Snag the 3e Masque of the Red Death campaign setting, and you're golden.

I thought about it, but I wasn't sure the character gen rules were to my liking.

Snagged the 2.0 Masque long ago. Some nice stuff in there, but man, those 2nd Edition rules were clunky, especially as appled to that era and genre.

Any ideas on if this will be converted to PDF and sold thru DTRPG or hardcopy only? As much as I like hardcover books, the ability to copy/paste and read while sitting at the PC makes me want it more in that format. I'd rather not buy the book to see the PDF come out 2 weeks later..but I want it so darn bad.

The Imperial Age

Just thought I'd mention that Adamant Entertainment is about to release a d20 Modern line called "the Imperial Age," which concentrates on Victorian Era gaming in the late 1800s. I've written a Monster Hunter advanced class that should be released very soon.

You could tweak the Shadow Slayer AdC from d20 Modern, or the Shadow Hunter from Urban Arcana. Mix that with d20 Past campaign model, [smallcaps]Shadow Stalker.[/smallcaps]

To keep this discussion moving...

I would like to play this as a fairly normal d20M Victorian game, except for a few supernatural elements...ironically, as few as possible.
I've already ruled out a few of the more fantastical elements, but I'm finding it difficult to come up with enough baddies to keep PCs busy.
Vistanis are all human - check.
Wolves as antagonists - check.
Strahd as a vampire - out there, but check.
Ghosts - maybe, but that's pushing my limits.
Gargyoles - check.

I have no intention of using dragons or any of the other traditional fantasy beasties. What could I replace some of these bad guys with? A bunch of evil humans just don't cut it, but I want to keep the amount of fantasy somewhat in check.

I've been thinking of having some mad scientist types with some special creations (a la Frankenstien), but I'm having trouble coming up with anything else that's not too out there. Creatures with damage resistance except for magic will not cut it, as there will be likely 0 magic items/weapons available.

Looking through my Menace Manual:
Giant Anaconda?
Dread tree...sounds fun.
Jynx...maybe, but pushing it a little.
Sasquatch? hehe

Opinions welcome...
