Castle Zagyg by Gary Gygax

In terms of professionalism, even if it's written top notch, as this is a role playing accessory, it still has to be used, which will require some skill in and of itself.

This isn't fiction. It isn't passive use. It's interactive and the interaction needs someone to well, interact with the written material.

one of the reasons why 'amaterur' material can work better for the original author is that they know exactly what they want to do with it.

Sorry, I don't buy that for a second. "It's what he would have said if he had written it" is a ton different than approving it. Myself? I think it's a bit of a cash in on his name. and hey, if Troll Lords can do it, more power to them. It's like an approval seal as opposed to him writing it. Some of the books have a vastly different writing style than his.

Gygax put his "seal of approval" on the New Infinities stuff, Town of Baldemar and Aesheba: Greek Africa, and both are outstanding products. Aesheba in particular doesn't seem much like Gygax's style. My point being that Gygax seems to have the knack to recognize good material by others, stuff that is definitely recognizable as being material Gygax fans will like, even if it isn't precisely written in his style.

Experiences will differ on that.

I loved both the product's you're talking about but know some people that HATED them, especially Aeshiba.

And there was something about Cyborg Commandos I think that comes up every now and again...

I've never seen any negative criticism of Aesheba. Cyborg Commandos gets lambasted, but I didn't remember it was from New Infinites.

Yep, CC was NIPI. It was published in a non-boxed limited edition, as well as the boxed set later. It's fine as a Terminator rpg, but has a pretty limited scope of possible appeal, which is likely why so many folks hold it up in the same light as Spawn of Fashan ;)

Is that the one that used logarythms during character creation?

Back to Castle Zagyg: How large of a region is described in the book? Is it the obligatory independent city state, or does it have ties to the outside world? What sort of climate is it located in? Is it inland (with a river) or coastal? If it's on a coast, where's the water located, compared to the city?
