Catastrophe!

Now that the group has been able to identify the direction of the sound, it is easy to ignore the echoes bouncing around the chamber you are in and narrow your focus to the "tippity tappity" sound coming from the center tunnel.

The sound gets closer and closer until it is about fifty feet away, beyond where the light of Ignatz sunrod can reach. Then, the sound suddenly stops and the center tunnel goes silent. Long moments pass before you hear an ear-piercing screech and then the sound of rapid digging and the splitting of stone.

[sblock=EVERYONE - Perception check, DC 20]
The ground, walls, and ceiling are alive with activity! Some things are burrowing in the ground all around you. Worse, it looks like whatever creatures are moving around in the ground are trying to surround you!

OOC: If you succeeded in this perception check, you will NOT be surprised in the coming combat. Map to follow soon.

OOC: Ignatz threw the sunrod down the left tunnel, and the sounds were coming from the center tunnel. The sunrod isn't shining any light down the center tunnel, it's only illuminating the central area and the left tunnel.

Can I not warn the others to prevent them from being surprised?

OOC: For warning the others, I kinda assumed it was along the lines of, they're coming so fast there's no time. Those of us that make the DC are just barely able to get our weapons up or whatever before they hit us.

OOC: Not only that, these creatures are burrowing toward you and all around you. Failure of the perception check means that the failing character is not able to keep track of where the creatures are before they are on top of you. To speed things up, I will be rolling the initiative rolls. For creature types you have already defeated, full stats will be posted, as will their basic attacks. Feel free to roll any applicable opportunity attacks for them when you take your turns. Map coming tomorrow (I have it waiting for me at work...right now I'm at home, sorry!)

ooc: The Cursed One is surprised. When he rolls initiative he will use his Crimson Blade power to reposition. I'm pretty sure I can do this even though I'm surprised.

OOC: The warlord bonus is to initiative, not perception. Also, rolling initiative generally happens after the surprise round, so you'd be free to reposition then.
