D&D 4E Catching up with 4ed - let me know if I've got some of this right

quick question on how per encounters work.

Can you use each per encounter once per encounter, or are they like sorcerer spells, where you have a certain amount of per encounters and you can choose when to use each.

like, i have 3 abilities, A, B and C. They are all per encounters. I am capable of using 6 per encounter abilities. So, i can use A 6 times, or A 3 times B 2 times and C once, or C three times and B three times, so on so forth.

Thanks ahead of time.
You can use each ability once per encounter. You may use A once, B once, and C once. It takes a short rest (5 minutes) to regain those abilities.

Thanks neceros. I was hoping i'd be given the option to use it like the latter then the former, but it isn't edition breaking.

It's odd, i use to be a fanboi but I'm getting a little disheatened from what I'm seeing. I feel like its the same game as 3e, with a few house rules tacked on. A lot of whats being done for 4e doesn't feel like an edition change to me yet. And I'm really not liking implements. When ever i read the word "Wand" i think of harry potter, and how it looks like you can stop a demon summoner by knocking out his stick made of "Three hairs of a unicorn and twinder snap wood"

Also didn't like the fact that rogues need to use either a small sword, crossbow or sling. I can't play a rogue and hold guys against walls by the throats and punch them in the stomach for info, nor can I sneak attack with a bow.

Is there any hope some of this might end up being different from how I'm seeing it right now?

I'm willing to listen. Thanks.

I fully believe that weapon feats will be a big help for those that wish to fully customize. The proficiencies you see here are default, just like the class abilities and racial bonuses. Each character should and will be different then each other. We're just seeing card board cut outs right now.

In fact, I'm of the same mind set with you. I don't believe 4e will be a whole lot different in terms of game design. However, so many people are complaining that the developers are changing too much. Which cast should WoTC shoot for?

Let's just fix what's broken, like the math, which was so bad it required my team to forget about games below 4th level and anything above 14th level, and just keep the things that work. D&D should always be D&D no matter which edition you decide to use.

True, guess i can't jump the gun. But one of my favorite things about playing 3.Xe was the fact that i could really, really customize. I guess its because I'm seeing all these cardboard cut out characters that I'm just starting to feel meh about it all. If i can multi-class between Warlock and Rogue, and have lets say, "Claws" or "Gloves" as my implement, I'd be very happy. Stacking the striker class abilities would be awesome, and using the ranged sneak attack with my eldritch blast, and my melee sneak attack with my claws would be heaven for me. Any body wanna ask if its possible? It'd totally make my weekend.

Also, I don't want to insult wizards (I'd love to work for them some day!) but I'm extremely underwhelmed by the digital offerings. Gleemax feels like it might have been better off as a Facebook application, and I've been working in Maya 3D for less then 8 months and feel like i might be able to model better then the DDI crew (sorry guys, but those faces are crap >.< I'm sure your geometry is fine though!).

I'm hoping theres a mod community for DDI, i have a few friends of mine that i know would love to give the engine a nice visual rehaul, maybe make a different style of Models.

But to the main focus, I'm hoping some info on multiclassing is released. If anyone could scrounge up something, that'd be nice. Also, wheres the love for the warlord? no character sheet!

So far they have held multi classing bits very quiet.

The only thing I've heard is that multi classing is much more strict. It's better for people that want to take parts of a class and mix it with their main class. It sounds as if we will be taking "Rogue Training" as a feat or a line of feats to give us rogue-like abilities, but we will always be a Warlock first and foremost.

Implementations I don't' know a whole lot about. I don't think there's anything wrong with making your implementation look like claws or whatnot.

4e is actually emphatically NOT like a CRPG. In CRPGs, physical types are generally relegated to mashing the "fight" option over and over again, while the spellcasters get to play with all the cool options.

What it clearly does take inspiration from are WoW's martial classes. Warriors and Rogues get to do something in encounters other than autoattack? Gasp! I don't understand why people consider this a bad thing.
