Prixo enjoys a private moment to gloat over having demonstrated his prowess in slaying Drider 3. Just as quickly, however, his triumph turns to frustration as Drider 2 re-appears and casts a web over the area. Trying to extract himself from the sticky mess, Prixo vainly struggles against the rough spider cords of webbing and is unable to move even this round, despite being tantalizingly close to breaking free to the next five foot area.
Zarra rips free of the outer tangles of webbing that engulf both her and the merchant stall she'd been hiding under. After moving ten feet to H11, Zarra finds herself well clear of the sticky spider webbing.
Alex pulls at the webs that overlay his thighs and feet but finds that the harder he pulls, the worse his situation gets. Held fast in place directly in front of Ardyth, Alex is unable to break free.
Drider 2 focuses on Hael and, in an eminently reasonable voice full of honied respect and diplomacy, says in Undercommon, "What a fierce, bold grey dwarf you are; one of your ilk would be welcome to join my organization and seek out the riches hidden in the world. Go to the Inverted Tower and present yourself for initiation, why don't you?"
Rolling Hael's will save.
Hael immediately feels his hackles rise at the back of his neck as he recognizes Drider 2's attempt to magically induce a retreat. Not buying it for a minute, Hael remains unswayed by the attempt. Drider 2, who soon enough realizes Hael is made of stouter stuff that it originally imagined, curses an oath in Undercommon and rears up on hind legs. Drider 2, still in full view, springs from the top of the shop roofs up 15 feet the cavern side wall. After its movement up the cave wall, 25 feet separate Hael from Drider 2.
Hael, benefitting from his winged boots, closes on Drider 2 by flying level with the creature. Finding that despite the creature's size, it has comparatively little reach, Hael muscles in to strike at Drider 2 with his trusty battleaxe. With only air under his feet to support his brawn, Hael connects with Drider 2 but for a relatively small amount of damage. As a piece of the creature's lower exoskeleton flies off into the air, Hael deals 6 points of damage but watches with dark delight as the blow seems to weaken the drider further.
I'm assuming that Hael never actually landed on the rooftops and therefore didn't charge you an extra use of the boots for the day.
Realizing what folly it is to try to physically remove herself from the webbing, Ardyth turns to her magical repetoire and casts dispel magic to try and dispel the web spell. After focusing her prowess in order to momentarily forget the ties that bind her, Adryth successfully dispels the webbing. In the flash of an eye, the webbing disappears, leaving no trace at all of its former inhibitiveness. Looking about her, Ardyth quickly determines that there are at least ten, possibly more, spiders descending from the cavern ceiling and that all of them will have gained solid ground at the end of the round.
Tailspinner, though you requested an area dispel centered on Ardyth, from the wording of your post it seemed more like what you were going for was a targeted dispel vs the web. Since it was also potentially ill for K'yorl if Ardyth dispelled, say, K'yorl's sanctuary spell, I went with the more specific option of a targeted dispel. Please let me know if you feel I did so erroneously.
The tiefling hunkered under the market stalls in S11 crawls out from underneath and casts a spell on himself. K'yorl and Ardyth recognize the spell as an arcane version of invisibility. When the spell fails to register, however, the tiefling remains visible and shakes his head in ponderous confusion. In apparent panick, the tiefling flees south 20 feet and skirts between shops into an alley. Just as he rounds the corner into the alley, he flashes invisible to K'yorl's eye.
@ Ardyth[sblock]The tiefling turned invisible 40 feet south of K'yorl. Ardyth, however, still benefits from her see invisibility spell and notes that the tiefling rounded the corner into the alley.[/sblock]
Lyssa, who had been busy at work extricating herself from the webbing, finds that she is now free of the sticky entangling mess. Able to vent her frustration and freely fly, Lyssa burns a path directly for Drider 2. Pushing her gloaming wings to their full ability, Lyssa spots Drider 2 in a clear line of sight some 15 feet up the far cavern wall and zooms in for an attack, drawing her +1 shocking longsword as she takes flight to V5 (plus 15 feet up in the air). With surprising exuberance for a creature her size, Lyssa reaches Drider 2 and bores in for an attack, dealing 10 points of damage, plus 1 point of shock damage.
The red-striped spiders who landed in T4, U5, W6, and Y5 land on the rooftops of the store fronts skitter across the roof and climb down to swarm the bazaar floor, some 25 feet below. The spiders in T2, U3, and X3 who had all within 5 feet of landing or jumping on the rooftop this round instead scuttle toward Hael. Two of these three spiders manage to reach Hael this round and eagerly snap at Hael with sharp black mandibles protruding from their red maw. Having missed Hael with its bite, the first spider (in T3) imitates Drider 2 and rears up on hind legs with a vehement hiss. The second spider (in U3) also misses Hael with its bite. The third spider moves from X3 up over top Drider 2 and makes it to S3 this round, but up 10 feet above the level of Hael. The spider hovering over the market stall in Y8 last round lands on the stall this round then scuttles down and scrambles across the open byway behind the dropped carcass of Drider 3 and back under the market stalls opposite, toward the newly visible tiefling. The remaining spiders who hadn't quite gained the bazaar byway last round spindle down to the floor this round then move forward Prixo and K'yorl. These last three spiders make steadfastly and directly for Prixo and K'yorl, their chitinous legs clacking against the cold stone of the bazaar byway. At the end of the round, these three spiders are right up on Prixo and K'yorl.
Somewhat taken aback by the appearing and disapprearing web, Blite looks back and forth between Drider 2 and the spiders ahead. Deciding at the last, Blite pushes his way past his companions back into the main path between the market stalls toward the spiders on the ground and the Tiefling that has suddenly appeared last round. Blite squeezes past Alex and Ardyth and misses stepping on Zarra but still manages to completely stomp another three of the flimsier market stalls, sending a spray of goods and merchandise scattering to the ground in a ten-foot radius.
With ear-splitting screams, the crowd commences to full-on riot and scatters in all directions. Three merchants fall underfoot and are trampled to a pulpy mess of tissue in L10, P11, and U9. The immediate vicinity surrounding the companions is soon devoid of customers and marketeers.
