D&D 5E CB's Stonefast IC -- COMPLETE

Colden

Colden moves to stand in the doorway of the room, keeping an eye out along the corridors while his more astute companions examine the room and it's contents. He looks at the glaive profferred by Guran and shakes his head. "Not really, it makes it hard to use a shield. However, it should be worth a small fortune which I could use."

He looks around at the others. "Anything of interest in here?"

Fulgrim gingerly examines the trapped chest. He determines that a hole in the ceiling probably contains a weapon of some sort, and that the trap is mechanical: opening the lid pulls the guidewire, which in turn probably triggers the weapon cached in the ceiling to loose itself on whatever unsuspecting creature is directly beneath. If the tension on the guidewire could be maintained while the lid is opened, or if the guidewire could be severed, or if the trap could be remotely sprung, this would likely mean the group could access the chest without fear of attack from above. More than likely, the trap has to be manually reset once activated.

"Hmmm..." Fulgrim mused, "I've seen this before, too. Lifting the lid pulls a wire that releases a weapon. The simplest way is to open it from a distance, which I can do, but I'm uncertain if it is unlocked or not. Let's check, everyone step back."

Once everyone had cleared the small room, the dwarf mage cast a quick cantrip and a spectral hand appeared next to the chest. The hand moved to the lid and attempted to push it open.

As soon as Guran hears Fulgrim call for evacuation of the room with the chest in it, he leaves there and keeps going out into the north-south corridor. He doesn't get far before he turns around. "So, now . . . ?"

Fulgrim called back, "The chest appears to be locked. Is anyone capable of picking the lock as we do not seem to have the key? The trap shouldn't trigger unless the lid is opened, if that is any consolation to whomever volunteers."

The glowing mage hand gave a thumb's up.

"Perhaps I could help?" offers the cleric at the mention of picking locks, reaching into his pack for his small toolkit.

[[1d20+4, with advantage if someone trained in thieves' tools is willing to help.]]
