Centaur PC=mounted PC. Is this unbalanced?

IMC I've had a couple of players take centaurs using the Savage Species route and have found allowing them the mounted feats was not that much of a problem and was generally offset by periodic movement problems. After all, the centaur may say "I'll boost you over the wall", but he rarely can add "and then you pull me up".

I think I would avoid allowing any "mounted" or "ride" feats, since they assume two separate characters (the rider and the horse) and a rider certainly can do things (like hanging over the side of the horse) that a centaur can't, but feats like "Trample" that other quadrupeds get wouldn't be unreasonable. I mean, are you going to let him make a Ride check to negate a hit on himself?

Tarchon, I houseruled that Mounted Combat would, instead of allowing him to have attacks on him negated by a rideriffic rider, allow him to fight effectively with someone on his back. IOW, the feat's only useful because I made up a new rule hindering people without it :).

Thanee, thanks for the reference. I think I'll pull this out and look at it with the player at the beginning of the next session.
