Centaur's Longsword Damage

Okay, the Centaur is large, so I can see why the longsword it uses is 2d6, but why is it +6 as opposed to +4? It doesn't have weapon specialization and for the creature, the weapon is one handed.

Typo?

Which begs the question; if a creature doesn't use a shield, and has martial weapon proficiency, why not use a great sword?

Of course, the answer is that not everything is maximized. But if a player wouldn't miss this obvious "mistake" why should the monsters?

Long story short, I have them use greatswords (or sometimes Halberds - for the tripping)

I like that, Centuars wielding halberds. Strong visual, much better than a sword. The idea of a reach weapon for a large creature makes a ton of sense as well (at least to me - figure he's gotta watch that hind quarter ;P).

I actually had to go look. That makes no sense to me. Guess I'll search around here for an explanation later, this must have been discussed already...
