CG vs. N: Chaotic Good Victorious!

The Shiek's slams bounce off the beetle's carapace. (Rolled 19+2 & 12+2)

Round 520: The beetle turns to the south and swings at air.

The Shiek hits twice for 16. The beetle has 86 hp left.

Round 521: The beetle finally gets its chance and claws twice and bites, then rends the Shiek in half. He takes 69 total. At least he fought more valiantly than the last djinn.

Next for CG in round 521: a juvenile brass dragon. (Draconomicon)

Amnhodenphinix flies into the area - 18' long from nose to tail, she streches the catagory of medium. Her scales are a dull brass color, but her headcrest gleams.
"Ask not for whom the Knell tolls, it tolls for thee! "
She will try sleep gas first. (from 55n60e25z)

The beetle falls asleep (rolled 14 Will save), unless the sleep gas is considered mind-affecting, like the spell. The beetle is immune to mind-affecting spells and abilities, and I am not sure if the breath weapon qualifies. The more I think about it, the less inclined I am to have the beetle fall asleep. Opinions? Hard evidence?

Round 522: ZZZZZ. Amnehodenphinix is next in round 522. Please give your position, either after breathing or in round 522 if the beetle really is asleep.

OOC: under breath weapon it says that some breath weapons allow a will save, but nothing about them being mind effecting. Vermin do have will saves ergo they must be able to fail them sometimes, and they do need to sleep. I don't have anything specific.

"I have heard that you are supposed to let sleeping dragons lie - and I wondered if that means we all talk in our sleep. "

Amnehodenphinix will land next to the sleeping beetle and cast chill touch then go for a coup-de-grass (claw 1d6+3+1d6 & str)

If the beetle stirs she will hover and wait to recover her breath. (at last coordinates)

OOC: OK. I agree that the beetle is not susceptible to the sleep breath weapon. The word sleep in italics in the text in the Monster Manual seems to indicate that its effects are similar to the spell of the same name. The text in the dragon's breath weapon does mention that creatures fall asleep regardless of HD, so that is one difference. If the breath were not meant to be like the spell in all other respects, I do not think it would be necessary to delineate the differences. Vermin have Will saves, but there are effects that are not mind-affecting that need Will saves to resist, like repulsion, holy smite, etc.

Amnehodenphinix can breathe again next round.

Round 522: The beetle moves directly under Amnehodenphinix (wherever that is), lifts up its bell, and emits a chiming sound that hurts a lot. Amne does not evade it at all (rolled 11 Ref save), taking 35 points of sonic damage. Amne has 75 HP remaining, and it is his move.

The beetle avoids some of the fire (rolled 21 Ref save), but still takes 8 points of fire damage. The beetle has 78 HP remaining. Amne can breathe again in round 525.

Round 523: The beetle moves to 60N60E and buries itself, disappearing from view.

Amnehodenphinix climbs to 60n80e65 and hovers hoping the beetle will reemerge.
on round 525 she will land at 30n60e, and if possible ready a breath for the beetle.

"Hmm No bell to ring. knock knock! "
