chain master

I have a player who is playing the Chain Master Prestige Class. While we're having fun, I want to make sure he doesn't get out of control.

Has anyone had any experience with these? What kind of problems have you come across

There's a master of chains in our party, and it hasn't caused any problems.

The spiked chain is great if you're into "specials": tripping, disarming, etc. This works well if most of the opposition is other humans. It doesn't work so well if you're mostly fighting big monsters (too hard to trip, a claw can't be disarmed). The chain also doesn't do that much damage compared to, say, a greatsword.

Well, for quite a while my campaign had a fighter/necromancer who was all about the spiked chain. He never went for MoC, though. Honestly, the most trouble I got from him was his use of one of my custom feats that let him trade an AoO for an extra 5' step; it let him adjust his position a lot and use that reach to full advantage. Even so, he died.

I think the MoC is a great prc for an npc; some of the abilities (especially the one that lets you swing around on chains fighting) just seem designed for use in the character's lair when being attacked, if you know what I mean.
