chain spell+ sneak attack

Anyone know or have an oppinion on whether a chanied spell is more like shurikens with only one possible sneak attack the 1st one probably, or is it more like extra attacks and you can get multiple sneak attacks with it. I can see arguments both ways, it is one spell, so one action, but it doesn't blast in a batch, each one is individually aimed right after the other.

Doesn't work at all.

Chain spell requires a spell that has a Target.

Sneak Attack requires a spell with Effect:Ray or Energy Missile, which are not Targets, as such.

Does that mean that an rouge/sorceror would get his sneak attack with a magic missile?

Because if that is the case.... Auwww ... defenitly auww

No, you only get Sneak Attack with attacks that require an Attack Roll.
For spells, things like Inflict X Wounds, Melfs Acid Arrow, etc; can be used with Sneak Attack. Spells that don't use attack rolls (Magic Missile, Lightning Bolt, etc) can't be used with Sneak Attack.

I'm not sure I agree with the req of a target cancelling out ray and ranged touch spells. If it only applied to spells that had target: single creature, then it would not apply to any damage based attack spell in the PH, and T&B except perhaps element orb spells. Since the 1st part of the feat talks about what it does to damage based spells that doesn't seem likely. The feat says it only applies to spells with one target I think it is basically a prohibition against area of effect spells not rays or ranged touch spells.

bump: I'm more convinced now about chain spell working on rays and ranged touch spells. Reason same book, feat split spell, this feat works on spells that effect a single target and are ranged touch attacks. Now they could change terminology every two pages, and single target means something special on one page, and on annother it just refers to non area of effect spells, but I don't think so.

So how does chain spell and sneak attack work, 1st target or all the targets is it more like MM and shuriken or more like additional attacks. And if sneak attack works on all the targetsm would sneak attack damage be halved as well as the spell damage.

Maybe they meant it to work with Rays and Ranged Touch spells. It doesn't as written.

I'd rule that they would work the same as Shuriken, only one of the attacks gets sneak attack damage.

I'm sorry I just don't see it as part of the rules as written. I interpret the feats wording differently I guess.

The line in question on chain spell says you can chain any spell that specifies a single target and has a range greater than touch.

Split ray as an exmaple has a similar line that reads, you can split spells that specify a single target and make a ranged touch attack.

I guess my point is I don't think specify a single target is a specific game term like stunned which is supposed to mean only one thing. I think it is just saying if you are going to chain a spell the spell can only attack one person, you can't chain area of effect spells, and you can't chain spells that target multiple people like slow. I think single target is basically a generic term, not a game term. At the very least the AND in split ray shows that a spell can specify a single target and be a ranged touch attack at the same time, which would mean a possible crit and a possible sneak attack can come from that.

As for how you'd rule thanks for your opinion I'm tending to lean that way myself, I'm just not sure yet.
