Wait. Can rangers be metrosexual. Isn’t that an urban thing? Not that there is anything wrong with metrosexual, but aren’t rangers non-metro.

I think this last line might be the closest I've seen to what I'm looking for. Even more than the previous bit about "worming my way out of deals," this is the description that shows us the character rather than just telling about him. And for me, that's the point of the exercise.

Patriotic Captain of a pirate ship. Pious polytheist tattooed with holy symbols, but with a tendency to make up religion sayings to justify whatever he happens to be doing at the moment and to treat blasphemy as just another form of worship. Stone cold killer with a perverse sense of justice, who says, "I'm not a nice man. All pirates are bad people, but some of us have standards."

Some pirates considered themselves patriotic. The English gave license at times to pirate from the Spanish. And similar things went on with different nations one time or another. They were proud to be serving the crown.

The freebies: Daughter of Skadi (she is quite unlike her mother in appearance as she is tiny). Huntress and working as a ballet dancer.
Striking looks (long Platinum blond hair, with emerald green eyes), Relentless, Combined Russian and Aesir fatalism (can't fight fate, make the best of it).
