Changing Star Wars d20

Lord Vangarel

First Post
I've just purchased Star Wars d20 and have been thinking of a few changes to the rules, I was wondering what everyone else thought?

Vitality Points: Remove them, characters gain a new hit die at 1st, 4th, 8th and so on levels. They gain their Con bonus per level. These are all Wound Points. To compensate PC classes gain an additional +3 Defense Bonus at 1st level. Also improve the damage reduction for armour.

Force Skills, Force Feats: Remove them and place them into a list of Force Talents like the wizard spell list from D&D. A force character gets a set number of talents per force level, i.e. 2 at 1st, 1 at 2nd, 1 at 3rd, and so on. This means that feats and skills can be spent as normal.

Jedi Classes: Make them prestige classes only. You have to be a Force Adept first and then once you meet the requirements can go into another Force using class.

Dissipate Energy: Change so it cannot dissipate lightsabers!!!

These are my initial thoughts. What does everyone think?

I am a bit to conservative, I think, but I would tend to give hit dies at every level. Removing the difference between wound and vitality points is okay - I do not really like the mechanics...
(What Hit Dice would you want to give for multiclassing characters?)

I thougt in an own rule revision about making Force User a standard class and than make Jedi Knight/Consular and Force Adept Prestige Classes (available after 5th Force User Level), but I never implented it fully.

If you want to change the "magic", excuse me, "force" system, I suggest the Psionic Rules with Powerpoints and Psionic Feats. They fit the Jedithings better, I think.
An alterate system I thought of was making it a skill/drain system. Alter, Sense and Control wouldn`t be feats, but skills, and the different powers would be determinded by DCs and vitality/hitpoint loss. Drain Damage should not be healable by the force (some kind of exhaustion/fatigue damage)

The change to Dissipate Energy seem reasobable. :)

If you have not played with the rules "as is," then do so before you make the selected change.

I assume that your Wound Point won't be similar to WP mechanics in the rulebook, whereas once you begin to take damage to WP you are automatically fatigued (see condition summary).

I don't know. A feat, particularly a force feat usually modifies a PC's talent through his checks and roll. Some force feat enhances or expands the use of certain force skills.

Now if you prefer to go the Psion's (or Psychic Warrior) mechanics (treat them as magic-like manifesting powers), then you might as well just convert those D&D classes for Star Wars.

Then again, a lot of gamers would ask you "why?" The skill-and-feat system is a lot more appealing than the magic-like talents found in the PsiHB.

Jedi Classes: Make them prestige classes only. You have to be a Force Adept first and then once you meet the requirements can go into another Force using class.
A moot point, personally. In order to multiclass to any force-user class later in gameplay, you must first possess Force-Sensitive feat.

Of course, if you convert this feat into skill ... I don't know, the rank of Force-Sensitve determine the maximum rank any one of your force powers may have at that time?

Dissipate Energy: Change so it cannot dissipate lightsabers!!!
Energy is energy. Although I have yet to see this displayed in the movie. Then again, someone else can cite me a source from the Expanded Universe era.

That it is your game and I have nothing to say.
