As announced earlier this year, our friends at Studio Agate are the new developers for the 7th Sea roleplaying game, under license from Chaosium. And they have just shared the news that a new edition of the swashbuckling game is in development. Above is the new logo!

Studio Agate have assured current 7th Sea fans that this is not a reboot: "7th Sea 2nd Edition books will remain fully relevant: they provide a solid foundation for the lore, while the upcoming volumes delve deeper and explore the Nations ten years later." The new rules will be a "modern take on Roll & Keep, with the Best of 2E".

Read all about it in Studio Agate's 7th Sea TTRPG Dev Diary on Patreon. There's also a survey where you can share your thoughts about the future direction of the game.

Color me interested. Though it really depends on what the new system shapes up to be.
From the dev log:

⚙️ The System: A Modern Take on Roll & Keep, with the Best of 2E

Your expectations are crystal clear. While some enjoyed the 2E system, many of you asked for a complete overhaul. Here’s what stood out:

  • More tension in the dice rolls: many of you called for a return to Roll & Keep, or at least its spirit.
  • Include and improve the best mechanics from 2E.
  • A balance between narrative and crunch: simple but flexible mechanics.
  • Combat that’s more engaging, fluid, and dynamic, with clear rules for duels and villains.
  • Better character balance, especially between duelists and... well, everyone else.
  • A more structured and transparent character progression system.
  • And above all: equip GMs with ready-to-use content, tables, and concrete examples, which brings us to the next point.

Yeah, I read it. Still not a lot of info.
