Character Concept Ideas?

* A human barbarian that isn't from a tribal culture far and away, but is instead a big city slum rat. With a temper. A mean and tough boxer/grappler/knife fighter. PrCs like Invisible Blade or Reaping Mauler from the Complete Warrior may be an option later on.

* A bard that isn't the sing-songs and woo-wenches type, but instead is a down to earth, scolarly historian and archeologist. More focus on knowledge skills and the like than on bluff, slight of hand, etc. Spelunking skills, Speak Language, Decipher Script and Use Magic Device would also all be very handy. Whip and Fadora optional.

* A ranger with various common sentient races as favored enemies, his job? He's a bounty hunter. A wandering lawman.

* Mainly of use if your DM uses the d20 modern style of Toughness, but a sorcerer with a (very) high con, plenty of toughness feats and who focuses his spells on shapeshifting and augmenting himself. He may not know one lick about how to indentify things, but if you need someone to transform into an Umber Hulk and dig a tunnel - he's your guy.

* An elf that doesn't suck. You're on your own for how to pull this one off, however.

* A half-orc rogue who's a whiz at cobbling together the right tool out of the wrong materials. Kind of a junk-yard engineer and alchemist. A whiz with traps and all things mechanical.

1. A brilliant (high-int) fighter whose specialty is combat tactics. Ranks in knowledge (architecture&engineering), profession (siege engineer).
2. A wizard who's love of magic has led him to study archeology so that he can explore all sorts of lost ruins, find the unspeakably powerful items, and then put them in a museum.
3. half-orc barbarian/cleric. A shaman figure who believes that his god possesses him when he rages. Joan-ofArc figure who frequently speaks to his god out loud.
4. A supremacist. Meaning any non-human who is intolerant of all other races, or at least patronizes them.
5. A gentleman thief. Rogue or swashbuckler, ranks in forgery, painting (or other art), diplomacy. A charmer who can either be the perfect con-artist or just a rakish hero.
6. A character with a mental illness. Severe anxiety, paranoia, depression, multiple personalities. (Mind you, not for humor--none of these things are funny; but if treated seriously such a character could be vastly different from the hero archetype.)
7. VoP monk (from Book of Exalted Deeds) who refuses to say anything that is not an aphorism. I realize that this is more of a cliche than a fresh idea, but I had so much fun with this guy that I had to mention it.

A nomadic herdsman, whose society values horses and furs as a trading currency instead of those shiny metal circles, and hasn't had much contact with the "civilized" lands. Whenever you are recieving payment, you demand it to be in horses and whatnot. Also it gives paths for a mounted combat specialist, to being a tribe shaman (druid) with ranks in profession (oracle) who casts the bones to see what the ancestors say, to just about anything else.

Leads to a fun rp value when you can say "That's a pretty bauble [pointing to an expensive necklace], I'll trade you one horse, ten raccoon furs, and a dog for it."

Not orignally mine, I read it on the boards a few years back and really liked it.

Darn... wish I knew where this is. I'd love to read more about it.... Anyone know if the thread has survived and where it is?

Don't settle for half concepts.

Go full orc barbarian.

ORCS AS CHARACTERS
Orc Traits (Ex): Orcs possess the following racial traits.
— +4 Strength, –2 Intelligence, –2 Wisdom, –2 Charisma.
—An orc’s base land speed is 30 feet.
—Darkvision out to 60 feet.
—Light Sensitivity: Orcs are dazzled in bright sunlight or within the radius of a daylight spell.
—Automatic Languages: Common, Orc. Bonus Languages: Dwarven, Giant, Gnoll, Goblin, Undercommon.
—Favored Class: Barbarian.

Be from the bloody hand tribe and loudly proclaim orcish superiority. When drunk rant about how the lesser races stole everything from the orcs but that their days in the light are numbered. Regale your companions with tales about how the gods of the lesser races cheated at creation and stole all the good places to live but that orcs thrive in the badlands and spread to mountains, forests, and the underdark despite overwhelming opposition because of their heroic grit.

For a contest I made three paladins, but I don't think I ever actually published my ideas for that contest. I have shared these character concepts before though.

A Dwarf paladin that rides a ram. He doesn't "joust" but rather rams his opponents.

A gnome paladin that had a kangaroo for a mount and rode in the pouch. He, or rather the mount, had a ring of jumping and his specialty was jumping up to amazing heights to come down upon his opponets.

My fav, however, was the halfling paladin riding an ostrich. I played with this concept a bunch and found that as a paladin you just don't get enought feats to make it *REALLY* fun but one of the ideas was a quick draw dagger throwing mobility platform, he never actually engaged opponents in melee unless he had to.

Other ideas:

a human (or perhaps Dwarf) sorcerer with a maxed out CON. Make a melee sorcerer. A spear and a crossbow are ok weapons. Get light armor prof., take toughness if you have to. Mind you this will make a really really bad sorcerer, but might be really fun to play just for flavor.

Get the ok to play a human with an INT of 19 or even 20, that is a wizard (alternatively a sor with a cha of 19 or 20) but be under a curse so that your actual "working" INT is only 10. This means you can only cast cantrips, although you would have lots of spellslots. Your character's motivation is to remove this curse.

A deep gnome druid with a specialty in water, just because I could not think of any more different opposed features together, a sea fairing deep gnome druid.

A pacifist fighter, or better yet a pacifist barbarian.

A cleric with a str of 7.

A half-orc rogue.

A sorcerer that is polymorphed into a twin of his familiar. Nobody else knows if they are talking to him or his cat.

A paladin (prob with high int) that has sunk all of his skill points and magic items into being a rogue type.
