Character concepts/PrClasses that just GRAB you!

I've seen numerous PrCs that are cool, but I'm a purist at heart so if something inspires me, I'll generally stick with core classes and use feats and optional abilities, like schools where you pay xp for powers, to compensate for it. Templates are also of great use in such situations.

I probably GM/Play about 60/40 so I can make the NPCs whatever I need but there is something satisfying about 'building' up to that unique character.

A rogue/master thrower/invisible blade (focusing on daggers only), from Complete Warrior. Just seemed like a nice, potentially dangerous foe for the PCs to contend with.

Actually, this is the route I'm taking with the Halfling knife-fighter I mentioned above. Right now, he's a Rogue 3/Swashbuckler 3, and is ready to start taking levels of Invisible Blade.

I'm DMing an Eberron campaign for my siblings, and I put in a DMPC who's an elven wilderness rogue/ranger going for invisible blade and then master thrower.

I'm really keen on playing Eberron but that's unlikely to happen since I usually DM and the rest of the group is not interested in the world.

If I were to get the chance, I'd love to play a once Cyran aristocrat(headed toward swashbuckler), a guy with big plans and panache. An underwriter of the adventuring company, he uses his cash and influence to secure Letters of Marque and equipment to outfit expeditions to Xen'Drik. He's convinced the ancient devastation there is related to the destruction of Cyre and the key to its rebirth. Alas, I suspect it's not to be.

This is my current favorite -- although, heck, I want to try so many!

LN cleric of Vengeance (use Cuthbert domains) / Avenger [Favored Enemy: Undead] / Hunter of the Dead. Used to be a Baron of a minor realm, until his realm was destroyed and himself nearly killed by waves of soul-sucking undead.

He wields a twohanded masterwork silvered greatsword named Divine Right.

Just so many cool feats: Power Attack / Divine Might / Sacred Vengeance / Favored Power Attack / Improved Favored Enemy.

And with the Destruction domain and Favored Power Attack, you can backload the +4 points into +12 damage against your favorite badguy.

But, let's be clear, Hunters of the Dead are so far outshadowed by the many insta-blast Greater Turning clerics (Radiant Servant of Pelor, MorningLord of Lathander, how many types of this pathetic bow to clerical utter superiority do we really need?), that the class is unlikely to get much play.

Other ideas I really want to try:

Half-Elf Bard / Evangelist. Come on. The ability to talk your way out of *anything* with a diplomat build?

Paladin / Fist of Raziel. Putting the "Might" back in "Smite."

I bought PGtoFaerun *just* because of the Justiciar of Tyr. Finally a Lawful class.

I'm totally digging the class and talent system in Grim Tales. It's the closest thing to a generic/classless system for d20 that I've seen. Throw away the binds of PrC's and classes - go generic!!

As soon as I started reading through the classes and talents, the character ideas just started flowing. The versatility of the system is just awesome. No need for PrC's or predefined classes. Just start with a concept and go to town. The awesome thing is that you can take two people with the same concept (like a swashbuckler type) and end up with completely different characters altogether.

What's so great about is that is just can't be broken. As a DM, I can have faith that I can throw the book at my players and have them make WHATEVER THEY WANT and I don't have to worry about sifting through pages of FAQ's and errata and message boards to figure out if the combo they discovered will rear it's ugly head later on in the campaign. It's a beautiful thing.

Peerless Archer from The Silver Marches FR book. It is the Ultimate Munchkin archer. No AoO from firing the bow, ranged power attack and a 30' threat range. The only problem is obtaining a quivver of infinite arrows and finding a DM who's stupid enough to permit you to run one.

currently: a stormsinger (from frostburn) is a must-have. sadly, I probably end up just DMing thru the winter, with just an occasional session of those games I usually attend to.

previous favorites:
a duelist - there is just something in that cocky character type with a girly sword.
dervish/bard. I loved my little harem-trained maniac.
whatever I play, I always return to thieves and rangers. I know, it's sad.
Salhan-

It sounds like we have similar tastes. I am forever playing the sneaky, dexterous nature guy- be he rogue, ranger, or even druid. I even tried playing Monk to be different, until he multiclasses to druid later (to qualify for sacred fist). :)
