[Character Creation] Monk / Psychic Fist

Viandante

First Post
Hi!
I have to create a character for my next pathfinder campaign and I'd like some advices.
I would like to play a monk, as I always played thieves and spellcasters (often mixing them up), but the campaign is pp-oriented (as most of the players are power players) and I'd like to have a character that is not useless in combat situations.
For that, my DM told me to look into psionics, Psychic Fist in particular.

I have to ask my DM about non-core races, so our plans may be delayed or changed according to his decisions.

I was thinking about an Ophiduan Monk / Psychic Fist.

Quick explanation:

Ophiduan race gives me +2 dex / wis -2 cha, +1 AC and some more little useful things.
Being a psionic race, it gets Wild Talent at first level, giving me a power point reserve, and I need it as it's a prerequisite for Psychic Fist.

Taking levels in Psychic Fist means I can choose from the Psychic Warrior power list something to improve my combat skills while still gaining monk's flurry, AC, unarmored damage and speed bonuses as levels stack for these purpose.

This way I should have more options in combat and enjoy my character in and out of battles.

I never played a psionic class or a monk, so I don't know where I should look for good feats or which power is better than another.

Any advice?

While I never played a psionic character in D&D, monks can be very fun

There are a few archtype monks you may wish to consider

The Drunken Master can be a hilarious addition to a party and will always have lots of ki to use (played it, DM doesn't like him, players were ltao)

Hungry Ghost is an interesting class and allows you to regain ki easily and quickly (crit or knock someone out, gain a ki point)

I do not know what level you are at but I would not bother with weapons, your unarmed strikes are already better then any weapon you could wield anyway.

Good luck on your character

Thanks!
To be honest, I don't really like playing in a power playing environment, as I like general roleplaying as mush as fighting my way through levels.
I always balanced that playing charisma based classes (thief being my favourite one, followed by sorcerer), so that I could be the face of the group and talk my way out of many situations, but after years spent in the shadows (or usually far from the battle) I decided to go for a fighter class, and the monk is the one most appealing to me (for his flavour, of course, not for his battle prowess).

But as long as I won't be the group's face, I'd like to be usefull in battles through all my levels.
