Character Creator's Block

I would suggest one of the following. They all get trapfinding
Beguiler (from PHB II) if you want a sneaky skilled spellcaster
Scout (from Complete Adventurer) if you want a skilled, mobile, wilderness focused character
Factotum (from Dungeonscape) if you want to do a bit of everything
Artificer (from Eberron campaing setting) if you play in Eberron and like magic items

Can anyone think of any suggestions for improving my combat via feat or specific equipment selection? I plan on having Able Learner so my scout skill points can go into face skills via swashbuckler, so that leaves me two other feats to play with.

Picking up a cool Martial Strike from Bo9S via a feat (at 6th level or higher) might not be a bad idea. It would synergize well with Skirmish, since you wouldn't be making a full attack anyway.

If you want to be terrifying in combat, you can always go Dervish eventually.

After all that agonizing, I ended up putting together a rogue3/swash2 (planning on Swash X, as I'm not aiming for any particular PrC), with Able Learner, Weapon Focus (Rapier) and Dodge (in theory getting Daring Outlaw at 6, then Mobility, Sping Attack later).

I don't know if it is the "best" choice, but at least I finally made one.

Many thanks to all the folks in #dnd3e who put up with my crap for two weeks while I was agonizing over what ended up being a relatively minor issue.

What about a Totemist or Incarnate? There are also the ToB classes, but you said you didn't want to step of the feet of the other players, so nevermind that... Hmmm... How about something from Tome of Magic? The Binder is a nice class... Your role can change daily as well. Tired of being the trap finder, be the fighter or healer (or both!).

How about something from the Psionics handbook? There is the Lurk which is basically a "psychic rogue". Soulknife can be fun as well, they get Speed of Thought, so they would make a decent scout. You can even go into Soulbow if you want to go a ranged route.

Ranger/Scout with Improved Skirmish and the Stalker feat from CS is nice too.

What's the rationale behind Able Learner? By alternating levels you can stay caught up in rogue only skills, can't you? Or is the feat a prerequisite for a prestige class later on?

Don't ask. I even provided a progression, but see, he wants to keep 19 rogue skills all maxed AT THE SAME TIME.

I dont know why, dont ask.

I don't know of any PrCs that have this as a requirement, but there may be one in the Races of Destiny.

Otherwise, it's just a great feat for any human (or doppleganger?) to take. Of the last 4-5 human characters I've rolled up, all have Able Learner.

Thanks,
Rich
