Character help please!

I am going to be playing a Artificer/Factotum in a gestalt campaign and would love any help people can give me. Mostly I need help making a list of items I will likely need or want to make in my career.

Also, I would love to know peoples opinions on how the character itself should progress. Should I just use minimal amounts of wand usage and feat usage to deal damage? Or should I become a "Bufficer" to enhance my party? Should I get the feat Magical Aptitude in order to increase my UMD and Spellcraft by 2 each? Doing this gets me a synergy bonus to UMD because of my total ranks but.. Its also kind of a waste of a feat at later levels.

I am currently only level 1 and the campaign hasnt started as of yet BUT I dont want to start the campaign and not have a decent idea of where my characters growth is going to.

On another note, he is a human and is currently only 16 years old (about the right starting age for his classes and race) and I am still working on his back story. The campaign is not taking place in Eberron so those places are not going to be part of my backstory. However, what I do have so far is that he was trained by a Warforged Artificer and was raised as a servent or slave to a Dragon. So far at least, I am not sure if I want to keep even that little bit.

Any help I can get would be appreciated as I have to go to game in around 4 hours. Thanks!!

Yes

No

Ah ok then, what would you suggest for a feat in its place? Honestly I am coming up with a blank to use their, hence that feat itself. I mean, I know at low levels it will help me alot but, in the end its a wasted feat, but what else is there to get that would be good from now and into higher levels?

I could of course get my Extraordinary Artisan (gp) or Legendary Artisan (xp) feat which reduces the cost to making items.

Thanks for your quick reply and help Dandu

To fully answer this question, we must use THE ARTIFICER'S HANDBOOK!

i have already printed that out lol. it helps but not as much as i would have hoped... they dont go into gestalt characters or multiclassed characters in there. im thinking extended spell and persistent spell as the two feats i get at level 1. and then i can make scrolls with persistent bulls strength and such.

what do you think of getting those? they would constantly help out my buffing ability and wouldnt increase the cost of creating scrolls and wands and such to much either.

let me know what you think!

Take the Wand Surge feat if you use action points and the Dm allows the Unfettered Heroism spell.

Prepare to have your DM hate your guts.

lol indeed.. he said i can use anything as long as it is in published material and i can get ahold of it... i have the races of eberron on my comp in pdf so i have that handled for the spell... although... im only level 1 at the moment and im not sure if i am using action points or not.. this combo gives alot of point systems that i am unfamiliar with.

i will be sure to right down the feat and spell for later usage however and i am completely fine with doing this as we are in a world ruled by dragons.. as in we work for dragons against dragons. artificer is a great tool for that as i have heard.

on that note.. something that ISNT covered by that handbook... if i were to go into a dragon hoard to retain essence the items... would i have to hold and study one each day or would i just have to be with the item for a full day? as in... i just layer myself in these items or do i have to sit am meditate on the item like i would using identify.

Hm. I wouldn't know; I don't play artificers. You could probably ask on BG and get some swift replies, though.

i will go and register and check there then and see what they can tell me.. i have about 2 hours until game but i doubt i will need to know this specific information until later on

Artificer//Factotum?

Expect to ooze Awesomesauce.

Expect others to love and hate you. At the same time.

Also, expect to have to plan, really, seriously plan ahead.

I haven't experienced Artificer so I've got limited insight as to that side, but the Font of Inspiration feat is always a good choice for feat selection on the Factotum side if you're not sure what you should select.

With the fact that with this build you literally can do Everything (Skill monkey, Divine Magic, Arcane Magic, Combat prowess, Equip the entire Party, Sneak Attacks, etc) give careful attention to what you want to do the most often and the best.

Consider a 2 level dip into Chameleon PrC down the road for the Bonus feat that you can change each day. Use this rotating feat for all the magical crafting feats that the Artificer doesn't automatically get, as well as metamagic feats you want to craft into magical items, that you don't expect to be using very often. For example, if you see yourself making liberal use of wands, use the bonus feat to add metamagic to them.
